Job summary

Flex is seeking an Automation Equipment Engineer for our Prai/Batu Kawan site in Penang. You will troubleshoot, repair and calibrate automated equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and support engineers with installation and testing of process equipment.

Responsibilities include setting up lab equipment for tests, recording activity in logs, coordinating repairs with vendors, and ensuring continuous 24-hour cover where needed.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a Bachelor degree in related field and 5 years of equivalent experience.
• Experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or computerized systems preferred.
• Ability to allocate work and coordinate a team for 24-hour cover.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and isolate the failure.
• Repair failures cost-effectively and perform preventive maintenance.
• Calibrate and re-qualify equipment per schedule.
• Assist engineers with installation/removal of process equipment.
• Set up lab equipment to test, calibrate, and evaluate instruments.
• Keep production managers informed of progress.
• Provide 24-hour coverage planning as needed.

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add Automation Equipment Engineer located in Prai/Batu Kawan, Penang.

What a typical day looks like:

• Through troubleshooting, identifies machine malfunctions and isolates the failure mechanism.
• Repairs the failure mechanism in the most cost-effective manner.
• Performs preventive maintenance at specified intervals and schedules.
• Performs calibrations and re-qualifications on equipment at specified intervals and schedules.
• Assists process technicians and engineers with the installation and removal of process equipment.
• Researches and implements corrective action reports and process tracking mechanisms.
• Records times and problems in equipment logs.
• Provides daily equipment functioning activity information.
• Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.
• Disassembles instruments and equipment and inspects components for defects.
• Aligns repairs, replaces and balances component parts and circuitry.
• Devises formulas to solve problems in measurements and calibrations.
• Assists engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording and indicating instruments and equipment.
• May require travel to other Flex sites or equipment vendors’ locations.
• Highest level may perform both software and hardware maintenance.

Specialized Job:

• Allocating work to a team of fitters.
• Checking and calibrating instruments to make sure they are accurate.
• Fitting new parts.
• Carrying out quality inspections
• Acknowledging immediately to equipment breakdowns.
• Fixing faults on site or arranging for replacement machinery or equipment to be installed.
• Keeping production managers informed of progress.
• Organizing teams or unipersonal to make sure that 24-hour cover is available.
• Working on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or computerized systems.
