Job summary

Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to manage and administer DB2, Oracle, MSSQL and MySQL across Production, UAT and DR environments.

The role requires extensive experience in high-availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and complex migrations. You will drive platform modernization, enforce security controls, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of enterprise database administration experience.
• 5+ years in a Senior DBA/Lead DBA or equivalent leadership role.
• Hands-on administration across DB2, Oracle, MSSQL and MySQL.
• Experience supporting 24x7 mission-critical production environments.
• Proven experience leading complex database migration projects.
• Experience with database consolidation and platform modernization programs.
• Experience with cross-platform database migrations and data center relocation projects.
• Experience supporting cloud adoption and application transformation programs.
• Experience ensuring data integrity, service availability and regulatory compliance during large-scale transformations.
• IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2; OCP; Oracle MySQL DBA; ITIL Foundation.

Responsibilities

• Monitor database environments for high availability and performance across Production, UAT and DR.
• Perform health checks, tuning, housekeeping, capacity management and preventive maintenance.
• Plan and execute patching, upgrades, migrations, and platform modernization with minimal disruption.
• Manage HA/DR, backup and recovery, and readiness testing.
• Provide production support and lead major incident resolution with RCA.
• Ensure regulatory, audit and information security compliance for databases.
• Provide architecture reviews and design recommendations for DB-related projects.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure and security teams on database initiatives.
• Lead major database transformation initiatives including migrations and data center moves.
• Mentor junior team members and enforce best practices in database administration.

Job description

Manage and administer the Bank's database platforms, including IBM DB2, Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL), and MySQL.

Proactively monitor database environments to ensure high availability, optimal performance, adequate capacity, operational stability, and service continuity across Production, UAT, and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments.

Perform database administration and maintenance activities, including health checks, performance tuning, optimization, housekeeping, capacity management, and preventive maintenance activities during both business and non-business hours.

Plan, coordinate, and execute database patching, upgrades, migrations, technology refreshes, and platform modernization activities while minimizing service disruption and operational risk.

Manage and maintain database high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), backup and recovery solutions, ensuring periodic testing and readiness to meet recovery objectives.

Provide production support and advanced troubleshooting for database-related incidents, lead major incident resolution, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implement corrective and preventive measures to improve service resilience.

Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, information security, and technology risk requirements, including database hardening, vulnerability remediation, privileged access reviews, encryption controls, and adherence to internal policies and standards.

Support business and technology projects by providing database architecture reviews, solution design recommendations, implementation support, deployment governance, and technical assurance.

Manage database capacity planning, performance analysis, trend monitoring, and growth forecasting to ensure scalability and future readiness.

Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity teams, vendors, project managers, auditors, and external parties on database-related initiatives and operational matters.

Maintain the IBM Licensing Matrix Tool (ILMT) and ensure software licensing compliance across relevant database platforms

Drive automation, standardization, process improvement, and continuous service enhancement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to junior team members while establishing and enforcing database administration best practices.

Lead and provide technical oversight for major database transformation initiatives, including database migrations, consolidation programs, infrastructure refreshes, application onboarding, technology modernization, and data center migration activities across multiple platforms and environments.

Requirement
