For August 2027 we are seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Principal (Staff Engagement, Alignment and Development) to join our senior leadership team. This key role focuses on fostering staff engagement, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision and values, and driving professional development to maintain and enhance our high standards of teaching and learning.

The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of the UK curriculum across KS3, (I)GCSE and A level, and significant experience of teaching and leading at this level. They should be skilled in supporting colleagues, adept at devising and implementing effective professional development plans, and comfortable in managing difficult conversations. They should have experience of leading staff in a positive working culture where all staff feel valued and supported, yet balanced with real professional accountability. It goes without saying that excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills are prequisites for this role. The senior leadership team is being restructured for 2027 and will comprise the Principal, two deputies and two assistant principals. Between them they will share responsibility for all aspects of theschool, supported by a business management team comprising HR, finance, facilities, student services, marketing/admissions/events, and IT.

Since the foundation of the school in 2011, POWIIS has built a significant academic reputation despite not selecting by ability. Our student body is approximately half Malaysian, with international students from over 20 countries.Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales, with students sitting IGCSEs and AS/A2 examinations, as part of the POWIIS High School Diploma.

POWIIS is a boarding school and consequently all teachers are expected to contribute to the wider aspects of boarding school life including occasional evening/weekend involvement on a rota basis. Experience of boarding education and independent schools is an advantage, but by no means essential.

Malaysian work permits are usually granted for two or three years. Initial contracts for senior roles are fixed term for 3 years, but continuity is important for the school; it is hoped that appointments will be seen as longer term, with renewal of contracts very common. Our teaching staff are predominantly British, with a significant number of colleagues from around the world and a small number of high quality Malaysian teachers.Our facilities and resources are excellent and there is low staff turnover; a feature of the school widely acknowledged and highly valued by our parents.
