Job description

Key Objective

Plays a key role in supporting the underwriting team by evaluating, selecting, and pricing property insurance risks. This position is also responsible for monitoring and driving production figures, ensuring the achievement of departmental targets while maintaining underwriting discipline and compliance with company guidelines.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and underwrite property insurance submissions in accordance with company policies and risk appetite.
  • Analyze risk characteristics, loss history, and exposure data to determine appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing.
  • Review and approve risks within delegated authority; elevate complex cases as needed.
  • Monitor and report on production figures, including new business, renewals, and retention rates.
  • Work with the team to achieve production targets and profitability goals.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for portfolio growth and improvement.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior underwriters and support staff.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the underwriting team.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients.
  • Represent the company in meetings, presentations, and negotiations as required.
  • Accountable for adherence to all fire related policies / frameworks / guidelines / SOPs and for ensuring accurate, timeliness and completeness of work. Repeated lapses or non‑adherence to policies and procedures will result in performance and consequence management actions in accordance with Company guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to Chubb’s policies and procedures for fire underwriting and processing, which adopted the requirements under Bank Negara Malaysia’s policy document, guidelines and specification letters on ‘Phased Liberalisation of Motor and Fire Tariffs’ and the relevant governance process on pricing, product approval and performance monitoring for motor and fire business.
Compliance, Code of Conduct & Standard Procedures
  • Adhere strictly to Chubb’s Code of Conduct, including maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and high ethical standards in all business dealings.
  • Ensure all underwriting activities comply with local and international insurance regulations, as well as internal company policies.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards; participate in regular compliance training and audits.
  • Conduct due diligence checks on clients and projects, including Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
  • Document all communications and decisions in accordance with company record‑keeping policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Promptly report any suspected breaches of compliance or code of conduct to management.
  • Participate in periodic reviews and audits of underwriting files to ensure ongoing compliance and quality assurance.

  • Proven track record of achieving production and profitability targets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • Proficiency in insurance systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
