Job description

The Assistant IT Manager serves as the school's primary technology lead and is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of technology services within the school. The role manages IT operations, infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, user support, and local technology projects while aligning with ISP Group technology standards and working closely with the Regional Technology Team to support teaching, learning, and school operations.

Key Areas and Points of Responsibility

Technology Operations & Service Delivery: Serve as the primary technology contact for the school. Manage day-to-day IT operations and ensure effective technology service delivery. Provide technical support to staff and students for hardware, software, network, and application issues. Act as the first point of escalation for technology-related incidents and ensure timely resolution of service requests.

Network & Infrastructure Management: Oversee and maintain the school's network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, internet connectivity, servers, firewalls, backup systems, and core technology services. Perform proactive monitoring and daily maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and minimum service interruption. Recommend and implement upgrades and enhancements to improve performance, stability, and user experience.

Systems Administration & Endpoint Management: Manage and maintain Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, learning platforms, school information systems, collaboration tools, and other business‑critical applications. Install, configure, deploy, and support desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, classroom technology, and peripheral equipment. Ensure standard configurations are maintained across all school-managed devices.

Cybersecurity & Data Protection: Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls to protect school systems and data. Manage user access, password controls, endpoint security, antivirus solutions, and vulnerability remediation activities. Ensure compliance with ISP policies, safeguarding requirements, and applicable data protection standards. Monitor system security and maintain appropriate controls to minimize operational risks.

Teaching & Learning Technology: Support classroom technology and educational applications. Work closely with academic staff to ensure technology effectively supports teaching, learning, assessment, and student outcomes. Provide guidance, training, and best‑practice recommendations to staff on the effective use of technology resources and educational platforms.

Software & Application Management: Manage software deployment, upgrades, licensing compliance, and lifecycle management. Provide technical support for educational, administrative, finance, and operational applications used within the school. Support the evaluation, implementation, and adoption of technology solutions that enhance teaching and school operations.

Asset, Procurement & Vendor Management: Maintain accurate inventories of IT assets, software licenses, warranties, and technology documentation. Coordinate with approved vendors and service providers for support, maintenance, repair, and replacement activities. Support the procurement of technology equipment and services in accordance with ISP procurement processes and standards.

Technology Projects & Continuous Improvement: Lead local technology projects and deployments within the school. Support regional technology initiatives and standards implementation. Identify opportunities to improve technology services, operational efficiency, cybersecurity, and user experience. Assist with technology refresh programmes and infrastructure upgrades as required.

Audio Visual, CCTV & Event Support: Support and maintain audio‑visual equipment, CCTV, access control systems, and event technology to ensure reliable operation across the school.

Budget & Administration: Assist in the planning, monitoring, and management of the school's technology budget. Track technology‑related expenditure, purchases, subscriptions, and asset lifecycle requirements. Maintain accurate records, reports, system documentation, and operational procedures. Provide regular updates on technology performance, risks, and improvement initiatives to school leadership and the Regional Technology Team.

Flexibility & Service Commitment: Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work outside normal hours where necessary to support critical incidents, major school events, system upgrades, infrastructure maintenance, and project activities that minimize disruption to teaching and learning.

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum 4-6 years of experience in IT support, infrastructure management, systems administration, or technology operations.
• Strong hands‑on experience managing IT infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, and end‑user support.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and/or Google Workspace.
• Experience managing Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices in an enterprise environment.
• Experience with endpoint and device management platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Google Admin Console, or equivalent solutions.
• Experience supporting device deployment, software distribution, compliance policies, asset management, and endpoint security.
• Experience supporting school technologies such as networks, Wi‑Fi, servers, CCTV, access control systems, printing services, and audio‑visual technologies.
• Working knowledge of networking, cloud services, firewalls, backup solutions, and data protection practices.
• Experience managing IT assets, software licensing, vendors, procurement activities, and technology projects.
• Ability to manage and monitor technology budgets and expenditure.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently as the school's primary technology resource while collaborating closely with the Regional Technology Team.
• Experience within an educational environment is advantageous.
• Willingness to work outside normal operating hours when required to support critical incidents, maintenance, upgrades, or major school events.
