Job summary

KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support daily meal preparation, perform mise en place, and ensure proper storage of ingredients in the freezer and chiller.

You will follow FIFO, assist with inventory, maintain cleanliness of workstations, participate in quality accreditation activities, and uphold KPJ's safety and standard people practices.

Qualifications

• SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) certificate required.
• Experience in hospital or food service environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in meal preparation by setting up mise en place and processing ingredients.
• Prepare, wash, cut, and grind ingredients for meals.
• Ensure proper storage and labeling of raw materials in freezer, chiller and store room.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

1. Participate in meal preparation by preparing mise en place including process of cutting, washing, and grinding.
2. Ensure proper storage of raw materials in freezer, chiller and store room including labeling of food items.
3. Ensure the freezer and chiller always clean, neat and tidy.
4. Perform basic cleaning duties and ensuring that workstations are properly maintained.
5. To complete the meal pre-preparation ingredients of the next day before leaving the kitchen.
6. To assist in kitchen inventory and labeling of food items.
7. Comply with First-In-First-Out (FIFO) system.
8. Participate in all quality accreditation activities (e.g. JCI, MSQH, IMS, MSOSH, 5S, etc.).
9. Adhere to KPJ Standard People Practice (SPP).
10. All policies and procedures are adhered to and records are maintained.
11. To assist in any other responsibility as deemed necessary by Head of Services or Hospital Management.
12. To carry out duties as an employee as stipulated in Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994:-
    • To take reasonable care for safety and health of his/herself and other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omission at work.
    • To co-operate with Management of KPJ PSH in the discharge of any duty or requirement imposed on the Management by the Occupational Safety and Health Act or any Regulations made therein.
