Job summary

EQ Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Finance professional to oversee the Finance Department and act as Acting Director of Finance in the absence of the Director. The role emphasizes internal controls, accurate reporting, and strong financial stewardship within the hotel industry.

The candidate should hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s in Accountancy, with progress towards ACCA/MICPA, and have at least 5 years in hospitality finance. SunSystems experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Formal accounting degree or diploma with professional qualification in progress.
• Experience in hospitality finance is preferred.
• Proficient with accounting software and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Carry out duties per Hotel and Corporate Office policies and statutory requirements, ensuring compliance.
• Prepare reports and correspondences for Finance Director review.
• Assist in training and supervising Finance Department staff.
• Act as Director of Finance in the absence of the Director.
• Maintain confidentiality of information at all times.
• Implement and maintain sound internal control systems and document policies.
• Review reconciliations and resolve differences promptly.
• Monitor and control operational and administrative costs to minimize costs.
• Maintain fixed assets registers and asset identification.
• Observe physical counts of stocks and equipment.
• Ensure proper cash management for maximum fund utilisation.
• Perform surprise counts of cash floats and investigate discrepancies.
• Ensure adherence to international accounting standards and local statutory requirements.
• Produce timely and accurate financial statements and reports.

Job description

This role involves ensuring functions are carried out in accordance with Hotel and Corporate Office policies and procedures and statutory requirements. You will prepare reports and correspondences, assist in training and supervision of Finance Department staff, and assume the role of Acting Director of Finance in the absence of the Director of Finance.

Key responsibilities

Ensure confidentiality of information at all times

Implement and maintain a sound system of internal control and ensure Hotel Finance Department policies and procedures are formulated, reviewed and properly documented

Review and ensure reconciliations are performed on a timely basis and differences resolved promptly

Monitor and control operational and administrative costs to minimise costs

Maintain fixed assets registers and ensure proper identification of fixed assets

Observe physical count of stocks and operating equipment and supplies

Ensure proper cash management for maximum utilisation of funds

Carry out surprise counts of the General Cashier's float, major floats and petty cash, investigate differences and report to the Director of Finance

Ensure consistent and appropriate accounting standards and policies are implemented in compliance with international accounting standards and local statutory requirements

Produce timely and accurate financial statements and reports for the Director of Finance's review and analysis

About you

At least Diploma/Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy or equivalent or currently pursuing a Professional Qualification (e.g. ACCA, MICPA)

At least 5 years working experience in the related field, preferably in hospitality industry

Computer literate with good spreadsheet skills and knowledge in accounting related software

Hands on experience in using SunSystems accounting software is an added advantage

Able to work independently and in a team

Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines

Good interpersonal and communication skills with an analytical mindset
