Mandarin Oriental Desaru Coast is seeking a Finance Manager to lead the finance department, ensuring accurate recording of accounting data and adherence to policies. The role drives financial reporting, budgeting, and control in a luxury hotel setting.

Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, 5–7 years in finance, and hospitality experience. Supervisory background and knowledge of hotel finance systems are highly valued.

About The Job

To operate the Finance department in an efficient manner to ensure the gathering and recording of all appropriate accounting data. To implement accounting procedures and policies. To ensure that the General Ledger is properly maintained and has all the supported documents. Ensure the financial reporting requirements are completed in accordance with Mandarin Oriental, Desaru Coast’s standards of quality and performance.

As Finance Manager you will be responsible for the following duties:

• Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others, advocates sound financial / business decision making, demonstrates honesty and integrity
• Oversee internal, external and regulatory audit processes
• Ensures that regular ongoing communication occurs with associates to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance
• Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.
• Ensure tax rates used for sales are current and proper amounts are collected and correct
• Leverages centralized accounting processes and shared services
• Advises the Director of Finance on existing and evolving operating and financial issues
• Communicates financial concepts in a clear and persuasive manner that is easy to understand and drives desired behaviours
• Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources
• Oversee day-to-day operations of accounting department including payroll, receiving and stores.
• Assist in the preparation of financial operating statements and reports in accordance with Global Policy and Procedures
• Maintain system of accounts and controls, providing accurate data necessary for all required accounting reports and statements
• Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring efficient completion of all month-end functions
• Monitor, supervise and prepare month-end balance sheet account reconciliation and analysis
• Participate in the creation of Annual Operating & Capital Budgets, Strategic Plan, and Monthly Operating Forecast
• Coordinate and ensure that all daily, semi-monthly and monthly management reports are issued on a timely basis and are accurate
• Oversee and verify the accuracy of monthly and annual physical inventories and valuations thereof in accordance with Global Policy and Procedures
• Administer financial component of concession leases, ensuring accurate monthly and annual reporting reconciliation of all rents due to hotel operations and Global office
• Assist in the effective utilization and integration of hotel and accounting technology system, including software applications, current and future
• Participate and contribute to weekly yield management of hotel operations.
• Actively contributes to hotel overall leadership and direction
• Maintain system of accounts and controls, providing accurate data necessary for all required accounting reports and statements.
• Complete financial statements, management reports in accordance with Global Policies & Procedures for review.
• Assist departments in the interpretation, orientation, training and analysis of accounting matters
• Co-ordinate and ensure that all daily, semi-monthly and monthly management reports are issued on a timely and accurate basis
• Develop an engaged, enthusiastic and guest driven department
• Recruit, develop, evaluate and motivate the team
• Represent the accounting office and the Director of Finance in his absence
• Assist subordinates Level TS1 and below with their duties as needed.
• Perform other projects, reports as needed and assigned.
• Ensure a good relationship is maintained with all the departments.
• Performs other department-oriented duties as instructed by Director of Finance.
• Assist the Director of Finance and other operational departments in any other administrative duties as needed.
• Perform other special projects assigned by the Director of Finance and Corporate Finance.
• Audit maintenance of payroll records.
  

As Finance Manager, We Expect From You

Educational Background

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent would be an advantage.
• Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in Finance or Accounting, preferably within the hospitality industry.
• Previous supervisory or management experience in a hotel or resort environment is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hotel accounting and financial control procedures.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and month-end closing.
  

Skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Good understanding of Malaysian statutory and taxation requirements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial/accounting systems.
• Experience with hotel finance systems and SCM Check, Sun System would be an advantage. Requirements.
