Job summary

Excelitas Technologies Malaysia is seeking an Assembly Technician to support assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing of advanced optical and laser-based products in a precision environment.

You will handle mechanical, electrical, fiber optic, and photonic components, perform Fiber Loop Assembly (FLA), fiber bonding, curing, polishing, alignment, and inspections per engineering specs.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualifications or equivalent in a technical field.
• Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Experience in manufacturing environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical, optical, fiber optic and photonic assembly per work instructions and specs.
• Execute Fiber Loop Assembly (FLA) activities and related bonding, curing, and polishing steps.
• Route, manage and inspect optical fibers and cables; perform end-face inspection and alignment tasks.
• Maintain accurate production records and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Assembly Technician to support the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing of advanced optical, optoelectronic, and laser-based products. The successful candidate will work with mechanical, electrical, electronic, fiber optic, and photonic components in a precision manufacturing environment while ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and production standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical, optical, fiber optic, and optoelectronic assembly processes according to established work instructions and engineering specifications.
• Execute Fiber Loop Assembly (FLA) manufacturing and assembly activities.
• Perform fiber bonding, sealing, curing, and related manufacturing operations using approved materials and methods.
• Route, loop, and manage optical fibers and cables in accordance with technical drawings and process requirements.
• Conduct fiber stripping, cleaning, cleaving, polishing, handling, and end-face inspection of optical fibers.
• Support optical alignment, fiber collimation, and related precision assembly activities.
• Perform precision assembly of products and subassemblies while maintaining high workmanship standards.
• Operate vacuum systems and specialized manufacturing equipment safely and effectively.
• Conduct testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and verification activities using approved procedures.
• Utilize test and inspection equipment to validate product performance and quality requirements.
• Identify, document, and support resolution of manufacturing and assembly issues.
• Escalate technical issues appropriately and work with engineering teams on corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate electronic production records and manufacturing documentation.
• Ensure all work complies with quality standards, work instructions, and process controls.
• Perform bulk and precision cleaning of components and assemblies.
• Complete packing and shipment preparation activities in accordance with established requirements.
• Adhere to material handling, traceability, and inventory control procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing quality, productivity, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Participate in the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Support new product introductions, process transfers, and manufacturing development activities.
• Train and assist team members in accordance with training requirements and work instructions.
• Collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, production, and cross-functional teams.
• Remain flexible and adaptable to support changing production priorities and business needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• GCE 'N' Level, NITEC, Technical Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Candidates with relevant technical education and practical manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply.
