Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Linux, ROS/ROS2, NVIDIA Jetson, and edge deployment.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary:

The AI Engineer is responsible for developing, training, fine‑tuning, and optimising AI models that support MR. ROBOT's stock replenishment and retail robotics solutions. The role focuses on improving robot intelligence and real‑world performance by leveraging UMI, egocentric data, and other robotics data within the AI training pipeline.

In MR. ROBOT's fast‑moving environment, the AI Engineer works at the intersection of AI development and real‑world robotics deployment, transforming collected data and AI models into practical capabilities that enable robots to perform more intelligently and reliably in complex retail and operational environments.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop, train, fine‑tune, and optimise AI models supporting stock replenishment and retail robotics applications.
  • Work with VLA and perception models to improve robot understanding and task execution.
  • Experiment with model architectures, training strategies, and optimisation approaches to improve robot performance.
  • Evaluate model performance through structured testing and real‑world robotics scenarios.
  • Identify model limitations and develop approaches to improve accuracy, robustness, and generalisation.
  • Develop and improve AI training pipelines using real‑world robotics and operational data.
  • Incorporate UMI, egocentric, and other relevant robotics data into model training and evaluation workflows.
  • Prepare, process, structure, and validate datasets for AI model development.
  • Work with relevant teams to identify data requirements and improve the quality and usefulness of collected training data.
  • Analyse data coverage and identify gaps that may affect model performance in real‑world environments.
  • Develop and improve AI capabilities supporting robot perception, decision‑making, manipulation, and task execution.
  • Work with perception components such as object and stock classification, OCR/label reading, and object detection where applicable.
  • Improve model robustness against real‑world variations such as lighting conditions, occlusion, product diversity, object positioning, and environmental changes.
  • Analyse robot behaviour and deployment performance to identify opportunities for model improvement.
  • Support development of AI capabilities that improve stock replenishment and other retail robotics workflows.
  • Design and conduct experiments to evaluate AI models across different scenarios and operating conditions.
  • Establish appropriate evaluation methods and performance metrics for AI‑driven robot tasks.
  • Analyse model failures and identify whether improvements are required in data, model training, perception, or system integration.
  • Test and validate AI model performance within real‑world robotics environments.
  • Document experiments, results, observations, and technical findings to support continuous development.
AI & Robotics Integration
  • Work closely with Robotics Engineering and Integration teams to integrate and validate AI models within robotic systems.
  • Support deployment and optimisation of AI models on edge computing environments, including NVIDIA Jetson Orin AGX/Thor where applicable.
  • Work with ROS2/AimRT‑based robotics environments where required for model integration and testing.
  • Troubleshoot AI and perception‑related issues observed during system testing and real‑world deployment.
  • Support integration between AI models, perception systems, robot behaviour, and application workflows.
  • Collaborate with Robotics Engineering, Robotics Integration, Application Engineering, Data, and Operations teams throughout model development and deployment.
  • Translate field feedback, failure patterns, and robot performance data into actionable AI development priorities.
  • Share findings from model testing and real‑world deployment to improve AI and robotics performance.
  • Maintain documentation covering datasets, models, experiments, evaluation results, and deployment requirements.
  • Keep abreast of developments in embodied AI, VLA models, computer vision, multimodal learning, and robotics AI.
  • Contribute to building scalable AI capabilities supporting MR. ROBOT's retail robotics roadmap.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in AI/ML, computer vision, robotics AI, or a related technical role.
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Practical understanding of AI/ML model development, training, fine‑tuning, evaluation, and optimisation.
  • Experience working with image, video, robotics, sensor, or other relevant datasets.
  • Familiarity with computer vision techniques such as object detection, classification, OCR, or visual perception.
  • Understanding of data preprocessing, dataset preparation, and AI training pipelines.
  • Familiarity with VLA models, robotics perception, or embodied AI is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to UMI, egocentric data, human demonstration data, or related robotics training data is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments.
  • Exposure to ROS/ROS2, AimRT, NVIDIA Jetson, or other robotics deployment environments is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in C++ is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, experimentation, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Practical, debugging‑first mindset with the ability to analyse why AI or robot behaviour fails under specific real‑world conditions.
  • Ability to translate AI development and experimental results into practical improvements in robot performance.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across AI, robotics, and engineering teams.
  • Strong interest in developing AI capabilities for real‑world robotics applications.
