We are looking for an experienced Switchgear Estimator to join the Pioneer Custom Electrical Products business unit, to generate pricing and proposal documents. This position plays an important role in shaping project success by ensuring accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates across a diverse range of electrical infrastructure products including switchgear, e-houses, skid-mounted systems, and modular power distribution equipment.
- Switchgear Cost Estimating: Guide development of, review and approve complex estimates for large-scale or custom projects, ensuring completeness and alignment with company margin targets.
- Proposal Development: Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates based on customer RFQs, technical specifications, electrical drawings, and project scopes. Analyze win/loss data to refine estimating strategy and increase project success rates.
- Vendor Relationship Management: Interface with vendors and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing for materials and outsourced services. Maintain updated information about vendor products and services.
- Sales & Operations Support: Support sales and project management teams with technical and commercial input during project bid reviews and negotiations.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Sales, Engineering, and Operations teams to tailor proposals, support pricing strategies to win business,and ensure seamless order handoff. Ensure estimates align with design capabilities, manufacturing processes, and delivery timelines.
- Travel Requirements: This position requires 20% + travel, including occasional overnight stays. Travel may be local, regional, or international depending on project needs.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience a related field preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in estimating with switchgear manufacturing, including experience with custom-built electrical products (e.g. medium voltage breakers, low voltage, automatic transfer switchgear, main-tie-main schemes, unit substation, skid mounted equipment, modular enclosures).
- Estimating: estimating experience in switchgear or related field is required.
- Work Ethic: Excellent analytical, communication, task prioritization skills. Must have a heightened sense of urgency and be results oriented.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of electrical schematics, BOMs, construction documents, UL891, UL1558, utility requirements, solar application requirements, and general micro-grid technologies.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to understand customer power protection and distribution requirements and develop appropriate value propositions.
- Software Proficiency: CRM and ERP (NetSuite+) tools, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and Spanish
