Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Software Development Engineer I for its University Talent Acquisition team in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. You will own the lifecycle of your code, from design to deployment and ongoing operations, and solve real customer problems with scalable services.

You will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, break down complex problems, and contribute to design, development, and documentation of reliable systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or related majors.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Knowledge of CS fundamentals: OOP, OS, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.
• Programming knowledge: C/C++, Python, Java or Perl.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools.
• Fluent in English.
• Previous technical internship or project experience.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS), databases (SQL/NoSQL), version control, debugging.

Key job responsibilities

• Collaborate and communicate effectively with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to design, build, and operate innovative products and services that delight our customers, while participating in technical discussions to drive solutions forward.
• Break down complex, ambiguous problems into well-defined, solvable components before implementation.
• Contribute to the design and development of scalable, reliable services, with distributed-systems scope varying by team.
• Conduct code reviews as a core engineering practice, providing constructive feedback and validating correctness.
• Contribute to clear and accurate technical documentation.
• Use GenAI and AI-powered tools to enhance development productivity, and critically validate, verify, and integrate AI-generated code, exercising sound judgement about when to trust AI output.
• Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and design patterns.
• Work in an agile environment practicing CI/CD principles while participating in operational responsibilities including on-call duties.
• Demonstrate operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.

Qualifications & Experience

• Are enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or majors relating to these fields.
• Are 18 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object‑oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java or Perl.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in academic or professional settings.
• Speak, write, and read fluently in English.
• Experience from previous technical internship(s) or demonstrated project experience.
• Strong problem decomposition, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
• Experience with one or more of the following: Cloud platforms (preferably AWS), Database systems (SQL and NoSQL), Contributing to open-source projects, Version control systems, Debugging and troubleshooting complex systems.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
• Demonstrated ownership and initiative in seeing work through from design to operation.
• Basic understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC).
