AgileEngine in Monterrey seeks a Software Architect to assess the platform's architecture and define a target-state design for an FDA-regulated SaaS product.

You will lead a small, cross‑functional team (PHP, C++, JavaScript), apply DDD and clean architecture principles, design APIs and data models, and drive modernization with secure, auditable CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a lead software architect or senior technical leader.
• Experience with mixed-technology stacks (PHP, C++, JS).
• Strong fundamentals: SOLID and GRASP; modern architecture patterns.
• Experience with layered architectures (DDD, ACL, Hexagonal) and clean architecture.
• Experience designing SaMD solutions under regulatory requirements.
• Proven API, data model, and integration design experience.
• Experience remediating technical debt and large-scale refactoring.
• Background improving CI/CD, security, auditability in private clouds.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills for remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Assess current system architecture and data flows to identify debt and scalability constraints.
• Define target-state architecture with bounded contexts aligned to DDD and clean architecture.
• Design denormalized storage and data pipelines to support read-heavy workloads.
• Deliver an architectural roadmap and phased refactoring plan with backward compatibility.
• Establish engineering standards, coding guidelines, and decision-making frameworks.
• Provide hands-on leadership to a mixed-language team (PHP, C++, JS).
• Improve development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and release processes.
• Mentor the team and produce high-quality architectural documentation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Software Architect to assess our platform's architecture and define a target-state design for an FDA-regulated SaaS product.

MUST HAVES

• Proven success operating as a Lead Software Architect, Principal Engineer, or similar senior technical leader.
• 8+ years of experience developing or architecting within mixed-technology stacks involving PHP, C++, or JavaScript.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, specifically SOLID and GRASP design principles and deep understanding of modern architecture patterns.
• Experience with layered system architectures, specifically Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Anti-Corruption Layer, Hexagonal architecture, or other clean architecture principles.
• Experience in designing, architecting, and scaling SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) solutions in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience designing APIs, data models, and integration layers in complex, multi-language system architectures.
• Direct experience identifying and remediating technical debt, designing legacy modernization strategies, and executing large-scale refactoring.
• Strong background improving CI/CD and software delivery lifecycles while maintaining system security, auditability, and resiliency in private cloud environments.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex architectural decisions to stakeholders and effectively mentor remote engineering teams.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and demonstrate unquestionable character and integrity.
• Upper-intermediate English level.

NICE TO HAVES

• Experience with DB schema assessment, zero-downtime migrations, query optimization, denormalization strategies, and physical data layout optimization.
• Prior experience leading architectural changes within smaller development teams.
• Hands-on experience with modern virtualized deployments and private cloud environments.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Assess current system architecture, integrations, and data flows to identify technical debt, scalability constraints, and anti-patterns hindering sustainable software development. Audit the legacy monolithic system and clean up existing database schemas.
• Define a target-state architecture and establish bounded contexts aligned with Domain-Driven Design (DDD), clean architecture principles, and regulatory expectations. Design a flexible, fault-tolerant pipeline to standardize and extract data from multiple external vendor feeds.
• Design denormalized storage to accelerate read-heavy queries, backed by clear trade-off analysis, balancing data-access performance against data redundancy.
• Develop and execute a phased architectural roadmap and refactoring strategy that modernizes legacy components while ensuring the company continues to operate smoothly. Maintain strict backward compatibility for active users while removing duplicate data and redundant extraction logic across systems.
• Establish engineering standards, coding guidelines, and decision-making frameworks to promote consistency, maintainability, and extensibility.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and implementation guidance to a small, mixed-technology development team (PHP, C++, JavaScript).
• Support professional development by improving development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, testing procedures, and release processes.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer through mentoring, design reviews, and the creation of high-quality architectural documentation to equip the internal team for future maintenance.
