Job summary

Petco in Mexico is seeking a Senior SDET – Mobile Automation to own, scale, and elevate automated testing for our iOS and Android mobile shopping app. You will build end-to-end test suites to keep critical journeys fast, secure, and reliable.

You will write business-readable BDD tests, run on real cloud devices, and integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines. Mentoring teams and collaborating with developers in an Agile environment are part of the role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in SDET / Automation roles with at least 3+ years focused on native mobile app automation (iOS & Android).
• Hands-on with Pytest, Pytest-BDD (or Behave/Cucumber).
• Proficient with Appium 2.x handling gestures, pop-ups, deep links, and device capabilities.
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions).
• Experience testing REST APIs with Python (requests) or Postman.
• Advanced written and spoken English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Framework Development: Build and maintain mobile test automation frameworks for iOS and Android using Python, Pytest-BDD, and Appium.
• E2E Automation: Automate critical e-commerce flows (login, search, cart, checkout, payments, promotions, order history).
• CI/CD Integration: Connect test suites to CI/CD pipelines for automated runs and reporting.
• API & Backend Testing: Automate REST API checks to seed test data and validate responses.
• Test Stability & Quality Metrics: Identify flaky tests, investigate root causes, track Pass Rate, Coverage, and Flakiness.
• Agile Collaboration: Partner with developers, product managers, and QA engineers in Agile ceremonies and mentor junior team members.

In this role, you will build end-to-end automated test suites to ensure key customer journeys (login, search, checkout, payments, promotions, and order history) remain fast, secure, and reliable.

You will write business-readable BDD tests, execute parallel runs on real cloud devices, and integrate automation seamlessly into our CI/CD pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Framework Development: Build and maintain mobile test automation frameworks for iOS and Android using Python, Pytest-BDD, and Appium.
• E2E Automation: Automate critical e-commerce flows (Cart, Checkout, Credit Card/PayPal/Klarna payments, Deep Links, Promotions, and Push Notifications).
• CI/CD Integration: Connect test suites to CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions) for automated scheduled runs and reporting.
• API & Backend Testing: Automate REST API checks in Python to seed test data and validate backend responses.
• Test Stability & Quality Metrics: Identify and eliminate flaky tests, investigate root causes, and track quality metrics (Pass Rate, Coverage, Flakiness).
• Agile Collaboration: Partner with developers, product managers, and QA engineers in Agile ceremonies and mentor junior team members.

Key Qualifications (Must Have)

• Experience: 5+ years in SDET / Automation roles, with at least 3+ years focused on native mobile app automation (iOS & Android).
• Test Frameworks: Hands-on experience with Pytest, Pytest-BDD (or Behave / Cucumber).
• Appium: Proven experience with Appium 2.x handling gestures, native pop-ups, deep links, and device capabilities.
• CI/CD & Version Control: Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions).
• API Automation: Experience testing REST APIs with Python (requests) or Postman.
• English: Advanced written and spoken English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

• Experience with TestRail (or Zephyr/Xray) integrated with Pytest.
• E-commerce / Retail background (Payments, Subscriptions, Loyalty programs).
• Exposure to Docker, Allure Reporting, or Selenium WebDriver.
• Basic understanding of Swift, Kotlin, or Java to assist with app-side debugging.
