Job description

Job Description

Frank Darling is a female-founded fine jewelry brand making custom engagement rings feel exciting, personal, and refreshingly human. Our modern, sustainability-minded designs have been featured in Vogue, WSJ, Bloomberg, Glossy, and more.

We’re hiring a senior backend engineer to build and operate the systems behind that platform. You’ll work with our head of tech, data engineer, existing software engineer, frontend engineer and dedicated commerce product manager.

You’ll have direct ownership of business-critical software, from architecture and implementation through migration and ongoing operation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Commerce services: build the product catalog, pricing, diamond availability, inventory reservations and order lifecycle
  • Payments: integrate payment providers for deposits, balance payments and refunds, with reliable reconciliation and audit trails
  • Showroom workflows: support custom quotes, order changes and purchases that move between online and in-person channels
  • Integrations: connect supplier feeds, accounting and fulfillment systems, with clear handling of delays and failures
  • Migration: move workflows and data from Shopify through staged releases, validation and rollback plans
  • Production quality: own automated tests, monitoring, access controls, documentation and incident resolution
Requirements and Experience
  • Backend experience: a record of building and operating production applications that handle orders, money or inventory
  • Transaction integrity: practical experience with database transactions, idempotency, retries and concurrent updates
  • Technical depth: strong API design, relational data modeling, SQL and asynchronous processing skills
  • Operational judgment: you can diagnose failures, restore service and prevent the same problem from recurring
  • Practical architecture: you choose existing services where they fit and build custom software where it creates business value
  • Independent delivery: you can clarify a requirement, assess tradeoffs and take a feature through release and support
  • Commerce platforms: migrations from Shopify or another established commerce system
  • Complex catalogs: configurable products, supplier inventory feeds or unique-item reservations
  • Retail operations: workflows spanning ecommerce, showrooms and fulfillment

Success in this role means accurate orders, payments and inventory; a controlled migration; and systems the team can maintain and extend.
