Job summary

AgileEngine is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design and build agentic workflows and AI-powered products for enterprise customers in higher education. The role demands leadership in production systems, expertise in Java/Spring Boot, APIs, and cloud infrastructure (AWS).

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a software product development environment
• Proficiency with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience with relational databases
• Hands-on AI agents / tool-using LLM applications
• Experience using agents for coding, reviews, testing, or incident response
• Senior-level in production software systems
• Experience with TypeScript, Python, RESTful APIs, and AWS infrastructure
• Experience with APIs, workflow engines, event-driven architectures, integrations, or distributed systems
• Strong testing, observability, security, permissions, and failure recovery
• Ability to turn ambiguous opportunities into reliable technical solutions

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic workflows coordinating tools, services, data, and human approvals
• Develop reusable patterns for agent orchestration and multi-agent collaboration
• Use agentic coding tools throughout the lifecycle: planning, implementation, testing, debugging, refactoring, review, documentation
• Integrate agents into development, testing, deployment, support, and operations
• Establish standards for agent evaluation, observability, reliability, security, governance
• Prototype new agentic capabilities and turn experiments into production systems
• Build complete, usable products and not just demonstrations
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity and product delivery via agentic development
• Mentor engineers and shape an agentic-first technical strategy across the org
• Collaborate with product/engineering to connect agentic capabilities to outcomes
• Demonstrate using AI coding agents as productive engineers across codebases
• Provide agents with context, constraints, architecture, acceptance criteria, and direction
• Review, test, secure, and improve agent-generated code
• Decompose complex work into agent-ready tasks maintaining architecture and product intent
• Create workflows where agents reason, select tools, call APIs, manage state, recover from failures, and involve humans when needed
• Design agentic applications for real user needs with intuitive experiences, permissions, audit trails, and error handling
• Move from prototype to production addressing performance, scalability, security, monitoring, cost, and maintenance
• Understand problems deeply and deliver complete customer-ready solutions

MUST HAVES

• 5+ years of experience in a software product development environment.

• Review, test, secure, and improve agent-generated code rather than accepting outputs without verification.
• Decompose complex application work into agent-ready tasks while maintaining architectural consistency and product intent.
• Create workflows in which agents can reason, select tools, call APIs, manage state, recover from failures, and escape to people when appropriate.
