Job summary

CIMMYT is seeking candidates for a Research Associate roster role to support field, laboratory and data work across maize, wheat and related crops. You will work with multidisciplinary teams at country offices or field stations, contributing to protocols, data collection and analyses under supervision or with increasing independence.

Bachelor's or Master’s degree is required or preferred, with 3+ years of relevant experience; roles range from entry to senior levels and involve collaboration with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Breeding or related fields.
• Master's degree preferred or required for Research Associate and Senior positions depending on specialization.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant research experience at entry level, 4–5 years mid-tier, 8+ years senior.
• Senior roles require independently managing research activities and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

• Set up, manage and monitor field trials, nurseries and lab experiments following protocols and quality standards.
• Design and implement research methodologies and measurement techniques using specialized equipment.
• Maintain and operate research equipment and materials, including germplasm, pathogen cultures and soil-testing kits.
• Support or lead household, farm and market surveys and data collection activities.
• Collect, manage and analyze research data, including statistics and progress reports.
• Coordinate on-farm research with partners, farmers and project teams; conduct stakeholder meetings.
• Train and supervise field/lab staff and students with increasing responsibility.
• Contribute to technical reports, manuscripts and donor reporting; lead co-authored publications.
• Manage research assets and procurement; ensure SOPs and safety compliance.
