Job summary

Micron Technology is seeking an MSSQL Database Engineer (DBA) to plan, coordinate and administer MSSQL databases across on‑premises and cloud environments (Azure and AWS). You will ensure performance, security, and availability 24/7, while aligning with business requirements and SOX controls.

You will provision instances, manage backups and DR, monitor health, collaborate with infrastructure and application teams, and produce runbooks and SOE documents to support scalable, reliable data services

Qualifications

• BS or MS in CS/Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years in IT MSSQL Database domain with on prem and cloud experience.
• Strong MSSQL management with 2019 and 2022 versions.
• Experience with Always On Availability Groups, Replication, Clustering.
• Backup and recovery strategy development and testing.
• DR experience with recoverability testing.
• Knowledge of Azure and AWS cloud services.
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements.

As an MSSQL Database Engineer (DBA you will plan, coordinate and administer database functions, documentation, upgrades, lifecycle, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and data protection. In this role, you will regularly work with Micron’s Business Units to ensure solutions meet or exceed business requirements. You will keep the database up and running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users. You will maintain operational excellence in multiple world-class Data Center environments, both on prem and cloud, with published standards and compliances.

Responsibilities:

• Provision MSSQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations with replication, Azure & AWS database support.
• Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases / Handle common database administration and maintenance such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
• Monitor overall health of databases and provide timely resolution and root cause analysis for incidents to prevent issues.
• Profile server resource usage, capacity management, optimization and enhanced structure
• Collaborate with other infrastructure team members and user customers / Collaborate with multi-functional application teams to design efficient and scalable database structure throughout development, testing and deployment to production.
• Investigate and fix database-related issues, including connectivity problems, performance degradation, and data inconsistencies.
• Provide technical guidance and support to developers and end-users / Prepare SOE and Runbook documentations, specifications and refine processes to support dynamic environments.
• Participate in setting objectives, strategies, plans, performance standards/measures and procedures / Follow SOX compliances.

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, other technical disciplines, or equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of 8+ years of overall experience in IT MSSQL Database Domain (On Prem and cloud) with proven experience in Database Operations.
• Strong proficiency in MSSQL database management with 2019 and 2022 versions of MSSQL
• Solid understanding on installing, configuring and troubleshooting MSSQL server, specifically Always ON Availability Groups, Replication, Clustering.
• Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Test and validate backups to guarantee recoverability in case of failures with DR experience
• Knowledge of Cloud services, preferably Azure and AWS
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in designing and automating repetitive processes to streamline service and ensure consistency.
• Good hands-on scripting language and automation, preferably PowerShell and Ansible.
• excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication, decision-making, prioritization, negotiation, collaboration and project management abilities.
• Understanding and alignment of ITIL change and incident management processes.
• Growth mindset for continuous improvement.
• Ability to plan system resource requirements from high level specifications.
