Orbia is seeking a lead employment law advisor for Mexico and Latin America to provide strategic and practical legal counsel on complex labor matters, driving compliant implementation of policies and procedures, and supporting business and People priorities through independent judgment and stakeholder coordination.

  • 8+ years of experience in labor and employment law.
  • In‑house experience preferred, supporting business leaders and cross‑functional partners.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish; additional languages a plus.

MAIN PURPOSE

To serve as the lead employment law advisor for Mexico and Latin America, providing strategic and practical legal counsel on complex labor and employment matters, driving compliant implementation of policies and procedures, mitigating legal risk, and supporting business and People priorities through independent judgment and effective coordination across stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide strategic and practical legal advice on labor and employment matters across Mexico and Latin America, with a focus on complex and high-impact issues.
  • Advise the People Team and business leaders on employment matters including hiring, performance management, employee relations, terminations, compensation, and union-related matters.
  • Partner with investigations and other internal functions to provide legal guidance on internal investigations and related employment matters.
  • Manage employment-related litigation and disputes, including coordinating outside counsel, reviewing recommendations, and supporting effective legal risk mitigation.
  • Review, update, and support implementation of employment related policies, handbooks, procedures, and communication protocols to promote compliance and consistency.
  • Monitor labor law developments across the region, assess business impact, and recommend appropriate actions to support short- and long-term priorities.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve template documents and standard approaches that increase consistency, efficiency, and quality of legal support.
  • Act as a key liaison with external counsel, helping monitor service quality, legal strategy, and cost-effective use of external resources.
  • Provide guidance and training to relevant stakeholders on employment law topics, compliance expectations, and practical application of legal requirements.
  • Represent the function in cross-functional matters by providing trusted legal advice and recommendations that support compliant and effective business decisions across the region.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LANGUAGE
  • Academic Level: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent is required; advanced legal studies or a related postgraduate degree are a plus.
  • Language(s) and level of proficiency: Fluent in English and Spanish; additional languages (Dutch, French, German, Polish) are a plus.
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in labor and employment law, ideally with exposure to complex, high-impact matters in a regional and multinational environment.
  • Indepth knowledge of labor and employment laws in Mexico, with broad working knowledge of legal and regulatory environments across Latin America including trade Unions relationships.
  • Prior in-house experience is preferred, particularly in supporting business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders on employment-related matters.
  • Strong business acumen, sound legal judgment, and the ability to develop practical solutions to broad and complex employment issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters and significant projects with strong planning, organization, coordination, stakeholder alignment, and presentation skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of business priorities, resource implications, and the practical impact of legal advice on cost, efficiency, service, and risk management.
