Job summary

Distro seeks a Hyper-V Engineer to move our private cloud from VMware to Microsoft Hyper-V. This hands-on build-and-migrate role spans multiple data centers in the US and Canada, across several sites, through July 2027.

You will install Hyper-V hosts and clusters, deploy SCVMM and AD, and plan migrations from pre-migration through cutover. Expect to optimise workloads after cutover, collaborate with Networking/Security on VLANs and DR, and handle legacy OSes and SAP HANA.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on Windows Server and virtualization experience with production Hyper-V clusters.
• Real world VMware vSphere/ESXi to Hyper-V migration experience.
• Working knowledge of SCVMM, Failover Clustering, Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy.
• Solid storage and networking fundamentals: FC/iSCSI SAN, VLANs, virtual switches, NIC teaming.
• Veeam Backup & Replication experience, plus enough PowerShell to automate the repeatable stuff.
• A troubleshooter's mindset, a generalist's attitude, and the ability to explain your work to customers.

Responsibilities

• Build Hyper-V hosts and failover clusters: Windows Server, CSV, Live Migration, iSCSI and Fibre Channel SANs.
• Deploy and manage the platform with SCVMM and Active Directory on a segmented VLAN network design.
• Plan and run VMware-to-Hyper-V migrations with Veeam, from pre-migration prep through cutover.
• Tune workloads after cutover (CPU, memory, power settings, security exclusions) so customers don't feel it.
• Work with Networking and Security on VLAN segmentation, virtual firewalls, and DR for migrated workloads.
• Own the oddballs (Legacy OSes, SAP HANA) and document everything.
