Job summary

Valmont Industries in Apodaca, NL, Mexico is seeking an HR Generalist to provide comprehensive labor relations support and oversee payroll, staffing, and employee services across operations. You will ensure compliance with labor laws, administer onboarding/offboarding, and act as a trusted liaison between employees and management.

Strong English skills, a bachelor's degree in HR-related field, and at least four years of experience in labor relations within manufacturing are required.

• Proven experience in labor relations within an operational/manufacturing environment and with unionized employees.

Position Summary

Provide comprehensive support to operations through effective labor relations management, ensuring compliance with labor regulations, monitoring absenteeism and turnover, overseeing employee services, and supporting HR administrative processes. This role contributes to a stable work environment and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Labor Relations & Operational Support

• Respond to and follow up on labor-related issues affecting operational employees.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between employees and the company for labor relations matters.
• Ensure consistent application of the Internal Work Rules and company policies.
• Support supervisors and department managers in employee relations and conflict resolution.
• Maintain ongoing communication with operations to ensure staffing headcount requirements are met.

Absenteeism & Turnover Management

• Monitor, analyze, and develop strategies to improve absenteeism and turnover metrics.
• Track employee absences, tardiness, medical leaves, and authorized time off.
• Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce absenteeism and employee turnover.
• Prepare periodic reports for HR management and Operations.

Personnel Administration

• Support employee onboarding, offboarding, and personnel changes.
• Prepare and process employment terminations, resignations, and final settlements in compliance with labor laws.
• Ensure a smooth and compliant offboarding process for operational employees.
• Maintain accurate employee files and ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping.

Payroll Administration

• Collect, validate, and process payroll-related incidents, including absences, overtime, medical leave, and employee leave requests.
• Ensure accurate and timely communication of payroll incidents to the Payroll team.
• Follow up on payroll inquiries and resolve payroll-related issues with employees.

Employee Services

• Coordinate and monitor transportation and cafeteria service providers.
• Address employee complaints, suggestions, and service-related issues.
• Verify compliance with transportation routes, schedules, and service quality standards.
• Maintain effective communication with service providers and Operations to ensure uninterrupted service.

Legal & Labor Compliance

• Follow up on labor cases before the Labor Conciliation Center and other applicable labor authorities.
• Prepare and compile documentation required for hearings, conciliations, and labor claims.
• Coordinate with external legal counsel.
• Monitor compliance with agreements and legal resolutions.

Performance Management

• Support the implementation and administration of performance evaluation processes.
• Coordinate evaluation schedules, facilitate assessments, and consolidate results.
• Assist in the development and follow-up of performance improvement plans.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Human Resources, or a related field.

Experience

• Minimum of four(4) years of experience as an HR Generalist or in a similar role.
• Proven experience in labor relations within an operational and/or manufacturing environment.
• Experience working with unionized employees.
