Role Purpose:

Provide learners with a rewarding, engaging and effective English language learning experience by delivering high-quality teaching that promotes successful learning outcomes and student progress. Plan and deliver lessons that meet British Council standards, foster learner confidence and support the development of practical English language skills.

Main Accountabilities:
Teaching

The role is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of a diverse range of learners and customer groups. The postholder adapts teaching approaches to accommodate different learning needs, learning styles, and modes of delivery, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience for all students. The role ensures that teaching practice consistently meets British Council Global Teaching Standards and aligns with organisational objectives, learner expectations, and recognised best practices in English Language Teaching.

The postholder monitors learner progress, provides timely and constructive feedback, and implements appropriate interventions to support achievement and continuous improvement. The role actively promotes learner autonomy, confidence, and engagement, helping students maximise their learning outcomes. The postholder maintains a commitment to professional growth through active participation in professional development, performance management, and continuous learning activities, ensuring teaching practice remains innovative, effective, and aligned with current developments in the field.

Teaching Centre Activities

The role supports the successful delivery of teaching centre objectives and contributes actively to the achievement of local and organisational priorities. The postholder participates in staff meetings and collaborates with colleagues to evaluate, develop, and enhance courses, teaching materials, and related services to ensure they remain relevant, effective, and responsive to learner needs.

The role contributes to marketing and promotional initiatives by supporting communications with learners, promoting courses and services, and helping to deliver an excellent customer experience. The postholder completes all teaching-related administrative tasks accurately and within agreed timescales, ensuring compliance with centre requirements and operational procedures. Through all activities, the role demonstrates professionalism and reflects British Council values and behaviours in interactions with learners, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Customers and Stakeholders

The role develops and maintains positive and professional relationships with students, customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders, contributing to a supportive and collaborative learning environment. The postholder promotes awareness of the British Council’s cultural relations mission and integrates opportunities within teaching and learning activities for students to develop their understanding of the UK, its culture, and its values. The role encourages meaningful intercultural engagement both within the classroom and through broader learning experiences, supporting the British Council’s commitment to fostering global connections and cultural understanding.

The role ensures full compliance with British Council policies, procedures, and standards relating to safeguarding, data protection, equality, diversity and inclusion, special educational needs and disabilities, health and safety, and all other relevant regulatory requirements. Minimum / Essential:
  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL (TEFLi) or equivalent
Desirable
  • Recognised diploma in EFL eg. DELTA/ Trinity Diploma (TEFLq)
  • Specialism where appropriate eg YL qualification: TYLEC (or equivalent), PGCE/BEd in Primary or relevant subject
Education:
  • University degree or equivalent

Important information:

Location: Mexico City - Teaching Centre in Polanco

Contract Type: Hourly Paid, Fixed-term, 1 year, renewable

Hourly salary: 418MXN (CELTA qualified) and 440MXN (DELTA qualified).

Working Hours: Classes are offered from 07.00 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 08.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Saturdays. This role may require mornings and/or evenings, and Saturday work. Every effort is made to reduce split shifts.
