A global HR solutions company is seeking an Employment Counsel focused on LATAM employment law. This fully remote role includes advising on legal issues, drafting agreements, and supporting policies. The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctorate, at least 4-5 years of experience, and fluent English skills. You will manage complex legal matters across various LATAM jurisdictions, ensuring compliance and supporting the growth of the company. Formación

The Role

: Anywhere in the world within timezone UTC -3h to -7h.

While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster's positions are fully remote and you can work from home.

Oyster is looking for an Employment Counsel to contribute to Oyster's growth to become the world leader in global distributed working.

This role will be a part of our growing Employment Law Team and will focus on Oyster's operations in the Central and South America ("LATAM").

What you'll do

Reporting to the Employment Pod Lead (Standards), your responsibilities will include providing advice and counsel to internal stakeholders regarding employment law and employment‑related issues in various countries by researching issues and advising internal colleagues; creating easy‑to‑digest materials around employing workers in LATAM countries and other jurisdictions as needed; and supporting Oyster's Platform and Products teams in building a scalable, marketable, and successful technology platform.

Oyster needs someone with extensive knowledge and experience in LATAM Employment Law (experience with multiple jurisdictions and/or cross‑border matters is preferred), including advising and supporting HR, and drafting policies and employment agreements.

Knowledge around intellectual property rights in the employment arena would be helpful as well.

Additional responsibilities may include risk and claim management, corporate diligence support, contract creation, negotiation and execution; and developing organizational policies and procedures.

In this role, you may touch all facets of law.

What we're looking for

  • Juris Doctorate or other qualified lawyer with proper qualification or licensure.
  • At least 4-5 years of experience practicing employment law, post qualification.
  • Fluent English language skills.
  • Experience advising on employment law compliance in one or more LATAM countries.
  • Experience drafting employment and non‑compete agreements, and other employment related documents and policies.
  • Experience handling employment terminations, transfers and employee complaints.
  • Ability to handle complex legal issues involving various LATAM countries' laws (including employment‑related questions and global workforce issues).
  • Capable of explaining complex legal theory, terminology, and issues in easy‑to‑understand language for digestion by Oyster Team Members and Customer Companies.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and research skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑output, team‑oriented, practical environment.

Bonus Attributes

  • Proficient in Google Suite of products (Gmail, Google Doc, Google Sheets).
  • Experience with a Contract Lifecycle Management system preferred (e.g., Ironclad, SAP CLM, Apttus, Conga, or the like).
  • Electronic signature software experience preferred (e.g., HelloSign, DocuSign).
  • Working in Notion, Asana and Zendesk.
