Job summary

Wabtec Corporation in Mexico is seeking a Direct Buyer to join the Materials team. You will secure material availability for production, coordinate with suppliers, and support planning and ERP-driven procurement activities on site.

Reporting to the Purchasing Coordinator, you will manage open POs, monitor in-transit shipments, and collaborate with warehouse, Quality and Production to keep deliveries on track while driving process improvements and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of experience in Purchasing and/or Planning.
• MRP and ERP knowledge (Oracle desired).
• Solid Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to prioritize activities.
• Use of analytical skills and data analysis.
• Desire for processes’ improvements.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Intermediate English desired.

Responsibilities

• Ensure material availability for production.
• Have daily communication with suppliers to confirm shipments are on time.
• Follow up in-transit materials with Logistics to clear customs with proper documentation.
• Maintain healthy inventory levels without delaying deliveries.
• Collaborate with Accounts Payable to pay suppliers on time.
• Update Oracle system for part numbers and planning parameters.
• Complete on-time Operational Excellence activities as part of KPIs.

Who will you be working with?

As part of the Materials Team, the Direct Buyer is a key pillar to the supply chain procurement as well as the main point between suppliers and internal customers such as Production, Customer Service, etc. In this role, you will have daily interaction with suppliers, warehouse, intercompany sites, Quality and Production while procuring raw materials for a scheduled production program, as well as offering solution to invoice, receiving and system issues that might come up in the Planning process.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of Freight Services-Wabtec de Mexico you will report to the Purchasing Coordinator on site and you will be responsible for:

• Ensure material availability for production.
• Have daily communication with suppliers to confirm shipments are done on time and when requested.
• Follow up in-transit materials, along the Logistics team, in order to clear customs at designated ports of entry with the proper documentation required.
• Keep healthy inventory levels without jeopardizing customers’ deliveries.
• Work with the Accounts Payable team if information or documents are need to pay suppliers on time.
• Do periodic updates and maintenance to Oracle system to every part number to confirm the planning methods used (MRP Planning, Min-Max) has the correct setup and avoid incorrect planning parameters (LT, source, etc.).
• Complete on time Operational Excellence activities as part of the plant Materials KPIs.

What do we want to know about you?

• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or similar or the 80% credits completed.
• 1 to 3 year of experience in Purchasing and/or Planning Area
• MRP and ERP system knowledge (Oracle desired)
• Solid Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Ability to prioritize activities
• Use of analytical skills and data analysis
• Desire of processes’ improvements
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Intermediate English desired

What will your typical day look like?

• Inventory levels revision.
• Follow up meetings with Production and USA Wabtec team.
• Review current coverage of part numbers according to the planning method used.
• Provide shipment priorities to suppliers.
• Communication with suppliers (external and intercompany).
• Open POs and In-transit follow up.
• Follow up receipt and payment issues with Warehouse and Accounts Payable.
