Job summary

Blend, a premier AI services provider, seeks a Lead Data Engineer to design and optimize data ingestion, ELT pipelines, and analytics workflows using Athena, SQL, and dbt. This client-facing leadership role combines strong technical execution with proactive communication and governance.

You will lead data quality, architecture, and pipeline reliability while mentoring engineers and advancing Medallion Architecture practices across data platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, with leadership maturity.
• Strong hands-on experience with SQL and dbt.
• Experience building ELT pipelines and data transformation solutions.
• Experience with AWS Athena and writing complex SQL queries.
• Solid understanding of data modeling and large-scale data processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of data ingestion and transformation solutions using SQL and dbt, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Own the development of end-to-end ELT pipelines using dbt and Athena to transform and process data from multiple sources.
• Design and enforce data quality frameworks, including validation rules, testing strategies, and monitoring.
• Apply and drive Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) best practices across data pipelines.
• Develop and optimize Athena SQL queries and dbt models to support scalable data transformation and analytics workflows.
• Develop and enhance data validation and ingestion frameworks, including UI components (Streamlit-based) when needed.
• Act as a technical leader, guiding best practices in SQL, dbt, data engineering, governance, and pipeline reliability.
• Proactively identify risks, bottlenecks, and data quality issues, and implement mitigation strategies before they impact delivery.
• Drive documentation and continuous improvement of data platform processes.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer with strong expertise in SQL, dbt, and Athena, with experience building modern data transformation and ELT solutions. Experience with AWS data services is a plus, but the primary focus will be on developing and optimizing Athena SQL queries and dbt workflows.

• Strong hands-on experience with SQL (Must).

• Strong experience building ELT pipelines and data transformation solutions.
• Strong experience working with AWS Athena and writing complex SQL queries.
• Solid understanding of data modeling and large-scale data processing.
• Experience with AWS services and data platforms (Plus).
• Experience with tools such as Glue, S3, EMR, Lambda, Terraform, or CloudFormation (Plus).
