Job summary

Kuwait Steel in Kuwait is seeking a Tapper Operator for the Ferro Silicon Plant to safely manage furnace tapping, control molten metal and slag flow, and maximize metal recovery while complying with safety and quality standards.

You will oversee tapping operations, ensure equipment readiness, lead the tapping team, and report abnormalities to the shift supervisor. Experience in heavy industrial tapping and high-temperature processes is preferred.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical Certificate or Diploma in Metallurgical Processes, Industrial Operations, Production Operations, Mechanical, or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Make Sure tap hole in good condition.
• Cleanliness of runner (Routine).
• Tapping area cleanliness (Spillages).
• Preparing molds/metal beds.
• Number of tapping in a shift required.
• Controlling and leading tapping team.
• Maximum metal draining out properly (recovery in a shift).
• Open and closing equipment, machine and materials readiness.
• Tap Hole repairing if required.
• Reporting abnormal tap hole conditions to Shift Incharge.
• Monitor and control metal bed fines.
• Crane operating and metal lifting.
• Control of metal loss tapped from furnace.
• Slag rearrangement.
• Assisting other section works.
• Control of unnecessary consumption.

Job description

We are looking for a talented and skilled Tapper Operator for Ferro Silicon Plant to join our multicultural and diverse team in Kuwait. You will be responsible to safely and efficiently perform furnace tapping activities by opening and closing the tap hole, controlling the flow of molten ferrosilicon and slag, and ensuring proper handling during tapping operations. The role is responsible for supporting continuous furnace operation, maximizing metal recovery, and maintaining compliance with company safety, quality, and operational standards.

Required Qualifications

Vocational/Technical Certificate or Diploma in Metallurgical Processes, Industrial Operations, Production Operations, Mechanical, or related technical discipline.

Preferred Experience

Vocational/Technical Certificate: Minimum 3 years of experience in Ferro Silicon, ferroalloy, steel, smelting, mining, or other heavy industrial operations.

Diploma: Minimum 2 years of experience in Ferro Silicon, ferroalloy, steel, smelting, mining, or other heavy industrial operations.

Relevant Experience May Include

Experience in furnace tapping, molten metal handling, slag handling, casting operations, or similar high-temperature industrial processes.

Experience working with Submerged Arc Furnaces (SAF), Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), ferroalloy plants, foundries, or metallurgical production facilities.

Exposure to shift-based operations, production activities, and industrial safety procedures.

Experience leading or coordinating operational activities during critical production tasks is preferred.

Job-Specific Skills

• Ability to safely perform furnace tapping activities, including tap hole opening and closing, in accordance with approved operating procedures.
• Ability to monitor and control molten metal and slag flow to support safe tapping operations and maximize metal recovery.
• Ability to inspect tap holes, tapping equipment, molds, metal beds, and work areas, and identify abnormal operating conditions.
• Ability to safely use tapping tools, drilling equipment, mud gun equipment, and associated accessories.
• Ability to coordinate and lead tapping activities while maintaining safe and efficient operations.
• Ability to maintain accurate operational records and promptly report abnormalities, equipment issues, and safety concerns.
• Strong adherence to Safety Standards, SOPs, permit-to-work requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and emergency procedures.
