Job summary

Kwtsteel in Kuwait is seeking a skilled Racker Operator for the Ferro Silicon Plant to safely operate the stoking car, load raw materials, and support stable furnace operation in accordance with approved procedures. You will ensure timely charging, monitor furnace conditions, and maintain housekeeping across the site.

The role requires 5+ years in ferro-silicon or heavy industrial operations, a technical qualification, and strong safety discipline.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial Operations, Heavy Equipment Operation, Industrial Maintenance, Metallurgical Processes, or a related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

• Timely covering of the furnace with adequate charge.
• Crust management inside furnace.
• Control of charge spillages from furnace.
• Workplace safety and availability anytime.
• Maintaining cleanliness around the furnace.
• Coordination with shift in charge and CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR for furnace operation.
• Reporting leakages and faults of the furnace.

• Refueling of stocking car in time.
• Basic maintenance of the stocking car (oil filter, engine oil).
• Stocking car breakdown handling.
• Support maintenance team on furnace shutdown activities, basic furnace maintenance.

Job description

We are looking for a talented and skilled Racker Operator for Ferro Silicon Plant to join our multicultural and diverse team in Kuwait. You will be responsible to safely and efficiently operate the stoking car for covered and charging raw materials into the furnace inaccordance with the approved charging sequence and production requirements. The role is responsible for supporting stable furnace operation by ensuring timely, accurate, and continuous material charging while maintaining compliance with safety procedures, operational standards, and housekeeping requirements.

Required Qualifications:

• Vocational/Technical Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial Operations, Heavy Equipment Operation, Industrial Maintenance, Metallurgical Processes, or a related technical discipline.

Preferred Experience:

• Vocational/Technical Certificate. Minimum 5 years of experience in Ferro Silicon, ferroalloy, steel melting, foundry, or other heavy industrial operations.
• Diploma: Minimum 3 years of experience in Ferro Silicon, ferroalloy, steel, smelting, mining, or other heavy industrial operations.

Relevant experience may include:

• Experience in operating stoking car, charging systems, material handling equipment, or production support machinery in heavy industrial environments.
• Exposure to furnace operations, burden charging activities, raw material handling, and production support functions is preferred.
• Prior exposure to shift operations, shutdown activities, and industrial safety procedures is highly preferred.
• Experience working with operating procedures, inspection checklists, and equipment monitoring activities is an advantage.

Job-Specific Skills:

• Ability to safely operate and maneuver a racker/stoking car in accordance with approved operating procedures.
• Basic understanding of furnace covering practices, burden charging requirements, and crust management activities.
• Ability to monitor charging activities and identify abnormal furnace conditions, spillages, leakages, or operational deviations.
• Ability to conduct routine equipment inspections and perform basic operator maintenance activities.
• Knowledge of basic diesel-powered equipment operation, refueling procedures, and daily equipment care.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with Control Room Operators (CONTROL ROOM OPERATORs), Shift In-Charges, Maintenance personnel, and Forklift Mechanics.
• Ability to support shutdown activities and routine furnace maintenance work.
• Ability to maintain accurate operational records and communicate equipment defects promptly.
• Strong adherence to Safety Standards, SOPs, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work requirements, and emergency procedures.
• General understanding of Ferro Silicon production processes and submerged arc furnace (SAF) operating principles.
• Strong situational awareness, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
