Qualifications

  • Experience managing wellbeing programs, counselling services, and crisis intervention.
  • Professional licensure or certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the University's Student Wellbeing Office and related initiatives.
  • Supervise the Mental Health Counsellor and provide leadership and guidance.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive wellbeing strategies, programs, and services.
  • Establish policies and standards for wellbeing and counselling services.
  • Coordinate awareness campaigns, workshops, and wellness events.
  • Oversee counselling and referral services for students facing challenges.
  • Coordinate crisis intervention and risk assessment with internal and external partners.
  • Develop partnerships with healthcare providers and external specialists.
  • Collaborate with staff across the university to support wellbeing interventions.
  • Monitor trends, service utilization, and program effectiveness; report findings.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, confidentiality, and laws.
  • Manage departmental resources, budgets, and planning.
  • Support initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, and success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Manager Student Well Being is responsible for leading the University's student wellbeing services by developing, implementing, and overseeing programs that promote students' mental health, emotional wellbeing, resilience, and overall wellness. The role provides leadership for student wellbeing initiatives, counselling services, crisis intervention, and preventative education programs while fostering a supportive, inclusive, and healthy campus environment that contributes to student success and retention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the University's Student Wellbeing Office and related wellbeing initiatives.
  • Supervise the Mental Health Counsellor and provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and professional support.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive student wellbeing strategies, programs, and services that promote mental health, emotional wellbeing, resilience, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and operational standards for student wellbeing and counselling services in accordance with University policies and professional best practices.
  • Coordinate student wellbeing awareness campaigns, workshops, seminars, wellness events, and preventative education initiatives.
  • Oversee the provision of counselling and referral services for students experiencing personal, emotional, psychological, or academic challenges.
  • Coordinate crisis intervention, risk assessment, and student support responses in collaboration with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Campus Security, and external healthcare providers when required.
  • Develop partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and external specialists to strengthen student support services.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs staff, faculty members, and other University departments to identify and support students requiring wellbeing interventions.
  • Monitor student wellbeing trends, service utilization, program effectiveness, and key performance indicators, preparing reports and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with professional ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, University policies, and applicable laws governing student wellbeing services.
  • Manage departmental resources, budgets, and operational planning to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Support institutional initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, and overall student success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of student wellbeing, mental health services, counselling program administration, and higher education student support.
  • Demonstrated experience managing wellbeing, counselling, or student support programs.
  • Strong understanding of crisis intervention, student development, and mental health promotion.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic and administrative departments, healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and ability to manage highly confidential information.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student services or case management systems.
Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Mental Health, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field from a reputable university.
  • Minimum of 5 10 years of progressively responsible experience in student wellbeing, counselling services, mental health, student affairs, or higher education administration.
  • Minimum of 3 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing student wellbeing programs, counselling services, crisis intervention, and wellness initiatives within a higher education institution is highly desirable.
  • Professional licensure or certification in counselling, psychology, or a related discipline is considered an advantage.
