Qualifications

• Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
• Ability to evaluate potential student athletes during the recruiting process.
• Knowledge of league rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them;
• Ability to read and comprehend various forms, documentation, files and information in the department.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone.
• Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to be able to verify accuracy of record keeping and athletics information.
• Ability to handle routine office operations (typing, filing, record keeping, etc.)
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
• Ability to travel when necessary.
• Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Instructs methods and strategies; coaches student in the sport.
• Provides motivation, both athletic and academic, to student athletes.
• If needed, will assist student leaders in scheduling practices and meets.
• Supervises assistant coach/coaches.
• Will assist students with team travel and supervise players while traveling.
• Coordinate with team leaders the manner in which team scores will be reported to the media for home and away games.
• Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the university and league rules; understanding that a coach can be suspended without pay or terminated if found to be involved in rule violations.
• Review and apply all policies and procedures outlined in the university's Affimitive Action Plan.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
