Job summary

The University of Kansas in Kansas is seeking instructors to teach graduate courses CE 778 – Air Quality and CMGT 705 – Constructions Contracts, Bonds & Insurance. This is a term adjunct position for Fall 2026 with renewal contingent on needs and funding.

Responsibilities include 100% instructional duties: lecturing, developing materials, managing syllabi, creating assignments, grading, and advising students. Eligible work in the U.S. is required; start date in August 2026.

Qualifications

  • MS in Civil/Environmental/Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or BS with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • For graduate instruction: terminal degree or Master’s with 7 years of relevant experience in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management.
  • Demonstrated record of research, scholarship, or achievement in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management.

  • Prepare and present course lectures for assigned graduate and undergraduate courses.
  • Develop course materials, manage syllabi, and create lectures and assignments; grade student work; advise students and hold office hours.

Job description

Position Overview

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering in the University of Kansas School of Engineering is currently hiring for instructors to teach courses at the graduate level for the following course(s): CE 778 – Air Quality and CMGT 705 – Constructions Contracts, Bonds & Insurance. The Instructor is an instructional, adjunct faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for the Fall 2026 Semester semester. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.

This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics, United Academics of KU, AAUP, or AFT. UAKU is the exclusive representative. As the State of Kansas is a right to work state, you have the right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.

Job Description

100% Instructional Duties for assigned course(s):

  • As an instructor for Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, primary duties and responsibilities will include:
    • Prepare and present course lectures
    • Develop course materials
    • Develop and manage syllabi
    • Create lectures and assignments
    • Grade student work
    • Advise students and hold office hours.
  • All instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, be current in field of instruction, and are required to adhere to Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, School of Engineering, and University polices and procedures.
Required Qualifications
For Instruction of Undergraduate-Level Courses:
  1. MS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management or closely related field OR BS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management & 5 years of relevant experience.
For Instruction of Graduate-Level Courses:
  1. Terminal degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management OR Master’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management.
  2. Record of research, scholarship or achievement in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management.
