Job description

Position Overview

The Engineering Management Program in the School of Professional Studies at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus invite qualified scholars and professionals with experience in engineering or engineering management to submit applications that will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool for consideration for part‑time Instructor positions.


Instructors teach a graduate level course and must possess an advanced terminal degree. Instructors report to the Director of the Engineering Management Program.

Instructors are instructional members of the faculty and are not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. Primary role is instruction with no obligations to perform research or service. Instructors are placed in single term appointments, with renewal based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.


This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between the University of Kansas and United Academics, United Academics of KU, AAUP, or AFT. UAKU is the exclusive representative. As the State of Kansas is a right‑to‑work state, you have the right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.


Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Job Description

100% Instructor Duties:



  • Plans, prepares and presents lectures for one graduate course in engineering management based on an approved course syllabus. Depending on the program, course and semester, instruction may in‑person one evening per week or online.

  • Develops assignment, projects and exams. Supervises projects, evaluates student work and provides feedback to students. Maintains office hours as necessary to meet students’ needs. In‑person courses are live streamed and recorded to support remote students.

  • Maintains technologies, including a learning management system and a classroom lecture recording system.


Required Qualifications


  • Earned master’s degree by start of appointment in engineering, engineering management or a master’s degree in a closely related discipline.

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of related professional experience.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Doctorate level degree in engineering, engineering management or a closely related field.

  • Twenty (20) years of related professional experience.

  • Evidence of prior success in teaching, preferably at the graduate level and preferably both in‑person and online (e.g. course evaluations, supervisor ratings).

  • Experience with a learning management system, a classroom lecture recording system, and live‑inclusion of remote students.
