UX Designer - Infrastructure role at Canonical

Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software and operating systems to global enterprises and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, powers cloud, AI, engineering, and IoT initiatives worldwide and is used by top public‑cloud and silicon providers.

We are hiring a UX Designer for Infrastructure to work with top engineering teams to build open‑source tools that enable cloud and cluster management globally. The role reports to the Infrastructure Design Manager and will be based remotely in the EMEA region.

Responsibilities
  • Build tools that enable everyone to create their own cloud experiences (MAAS, LXD, MicroCloud, Canonical k8s)
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to shape the future of self‑sovereign clouds
  • Support deeply complex products with design and UX heuristics
  • Evangelise design systems that drive consistency and efficiency
  • Understand the broader scope and interconnected constraints of each project
  • Lead a working group that enable Canonical design’s horizontal efforts
Qualifications
  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent in User Experience, Design, STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
  • Excitement about building things and working with real hardware
  • Knowledge and passion for user experience, technology, and design
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement — curious, flexible, scientific
  • Result‑oriented with a drive to finish work and celebrate success
  • Confidence in user research practices
  • Engagement with the latest design research and innovation
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
