Philip Morris International is seeking a Sr Engineering Manager of Material Innovation to bridge Product Development, R&D and Operations, embedding manufacturing deliverables early to enable scalable, high-quality deployment.

You will lead material development, apply DfM and Lean manufacturing principles, assess impact on product and process, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to reduce industrialization risks across sites.

• 10+ years of experience in related field.
• At least 5 years leading managers, engineers, and SMEs.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and DfM principles.
• Experience with Total Cost of Ownership in complex manufacturing.

Your Role

The Sr Engineering Manager of Material Innovation serves as the strategic and operational bridge between Product Development, R&D, and Operations, ensuring that innovation is translated into industrial solutions quickly, efficiently, and with high quality. This role is responsible for embedding design for manufacturing and design for agility principles into the development process from the earliest stages, so that new products, processes, and technologies are not only innovative, but also scalable, robust, and ready for rapid deployment across manufacturing environments.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the development and deployment of innovative materials that enable product differentiation, improve performance, and support business growth objectives while aligning with long-term innovation and technology roadmaps;
• Ensure material solutions are developed with manufacturing capabilities and constraints in mind, embedding Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles from the earliest stages of product and technology development;
• Evaluate the influence of materials on product quality, process robustness, technology performance, and operational reliability, ensuring solutions are scalable and sustainable at industrial scale;
• Partner with Product Development, R&D, and Operations to reduce industrialization risks, shorten development cycles, and enable rapid implementation of new materials across manufacturing sites;
• Act as the primary bridge between Innovation, Product Development, Engineering, Procurement, Quality, and Operations teams, driving alignment and effective decision-making throughout the development lifecycle.

Skills & Capabilities

• Overall 10+ years of experience of which min 5 years in specific functional domain;
• 5+ years solid experience in leading Managers, Engineers, and Technical SMEs, with ability to understand the product and process fundamental requirements, and the associated quality control requirements;
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Material Engineering or similar disciplines;
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of designing complex Manufacturing system with application of lean manufacturing;
• Knowledge of TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) in complex Manufacturing systems and the key value drivers for Value Creation;
• Fluency in English, written and spoken,
• In this position you will earn no less than 108.738 € gross yearly.
