OVERALL MISSION
As Sport Manager you are responsible for ensuring our Sport offering is implemented and delivered in line with Aspria’s mission. You will contribute positively to the Club’s member experience and financial performance.
You will implement and deliver our sports strategies in the Club. You will aim to deliver a world class service that exceeds the expectations of members of all ages and inspire them to enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle. As a member of the Club’s management team, you will collaborate closely with other Heads of Department and the Club Manager to implement central strategy at a club level.
Duties & Responsibilities
Services
- Deliver high quality Sport services, including environment, programmes and services across our gym areas, group exercise, tennis courts and junior sporting activity programmes.
- Ensure the sports, tennis and padel programmes cater for all member profiles. Deliver pathways of progression, development and excellence to drive member engagement.
- Supervise all adult and junior Tennis Academy programmes, including tournament calendars, maintaining a strong relationship with the Tennis Federation.
- Organize and coordinate summer and winter camps for children.
- Deliver our Aspria philosophy including assessments, referrals and programme prescription to drive member engagement across our full product and service offering.
- Perform as Group Exercise Instructor when required.
Team
- Manage a team of 40–50 freelance group‑class instructors and oversee the coordination of the weekly group exercise schedule.
- Recruit, coach and develop the team to deliver best possible service and maximise member sentiment.
- Through leading by example and a hands‑on approach, ensure staff are engaged with members at all times.
- Create a trust‑based team environment in which team members are encouraged to take initiatives and achieve goals.
- Set challenging and inspiring objectives for each team member.
- Ensure appropriate resource management, through effective monthly, weekly and daily planning of the team, giving relevant attention to peak periods.
- Ensure personal and team compliance to company guidelines.
Environment
- Ensure all Sports areas are kept clean, tidy and well maintained at all times.
- Conduct regular audits of sport areas and create, deliver and implement a plan of continuous improvement to deliver a world class environment.
- Ensure optimum functionality and upkeep of fitness equipment including liaising with third parties and in‑house maintenance teams.
Commercial Management
- Alongside the Club Manager and Operations Director, drive the commercial success. This includes monitoring local market and competitor businesses.
- Assist with the creation of member events involving sport activities.
- Deliver budgeted revenues, gross margins, overheads and payroll costs within the sport area, studio departments and ensure budgeted profitability is achieved.
- Analyse key information and reports to drive member usage, utilisation and feedback and thereby optimise member engagement and enjoyment of the club’s sport offering.
General Management
- Play an active role within the club’s leadership team and provide input on cross‑department initiatives (tennis, padel, classes, kids activities).
- Support the Club Manager to the day‑to‑day management of the club.
- Be a TCA ambassador, portraying TCA fundamental behaviours at all times and encouraging others to do likewise.
- Management of at least collective 90 classes/week.
- Collaboration with Vavassori technical responsibles.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Department actual EBITDA vs budget
- Personal Trainers induction and revenue
- Penetration and occupancy rate of sports courses, tennis and junior programmes
- Penetration, occupancy and cost per attendee of group exercise programme
Requirements
- Degree or Master qualification in Fitness and Sports related field is necessary
- Strong experience working in the sports (tennis preferred), fitness or health related industries
- At least 3 years experience in leading a team in a service orientated health & fitness or sports business
- Ability to recruit, retain and develop exceptional team
- Strong relationship building skills
- Commercial acumen & strong drive to positively impact profitability
- Financial literacyExperience in successfully implementing centrally driven strategy
- Strong written and verbal English
- Good Microsoft Office skills
- The knowledge of Tennis is a plus
JOB IDENTIFICATIONS
- The position of Sport Manager is a full‑time role based in Tennis Club Ambrosiano. Travel or transfers may be required.
