Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) in Milan, Italy, seeks an experienced Senior Professional Indemnity & Cyber Underwriter to join the Executive & Professional team. You will underwrite PI and Cyber risks, build strong broker and customer relationships, and help shape Italy's PI & Cyber strategy.

Prioritizing profitable growth, you will collaborate with claims, actuarial and regional teams while developing portfolio strategy, product offerings, and market presence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Professional Indemnity underwriting experience in the Italian market.
• Cyber underwriting experience is advantageous but not required.
• Strong technical underwriting and portfolio management skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite a broad range of PI and Cyber risks for Large Corporate and Middle Market in Italy.
• Develop and grow the PI & Cyber portfolio with a focus on profitable, sustainable growth.
• Establish and expand long-term relationships with brokers and customers in Italy.
• Communicate BHSI's value proposition to brokers and customers and position BHSI as a leading PI & Cyber market in Italy.
• Contribute to product development, policy wordings and underwriting tools to meet evolving client needs.
• Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with high underwriting and service standards.
• Be a positive representative of BHSI with integrity and leadership in interactions with stakeholders.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Professional Indemnity & Cyber Underwriter to join our Executive & Professional team in Milan, Italy.

Working closely with the Head of PI & Cyber, you will play an important role in developing our Professional Indemnity and Cyber portfolio in Italy. You will underwrite new and renewal business, build strong relationships with brokers and customers, and identify opportunities for profitable and sustainable growth. You will also help shape our broader underwriting strategy, product offering and market presence, while collaborating with Claims, Actuarial and underwriting teammates across BHSI.

This is an opportunity to join a global insurer while helping to shape the continued development of our PI & Cyber proposition in Italy. The successful candidate will have meaningful exposure to portfolio strategy, product development and broker engagement, with the support of experienced local and international teammates. Cyber underwriting experience would be advantageous but is not essential. We would also welcome candidates with strong Professional Indemnity experience and an interest in further developing their Cyber underwriting expertise.

Duties & responsibilities

• Underwrite a broad range of Professional Indemnity and Cyber risks, across both Large Corporate and Middle Market segments, ensuring appropriate risk analysis and documentation and maintaining sound underwriting discipline, diligence and quality of service.
• Support the development and growth of the PI & Cyber portfolio in Italy, with a strong focus on profitable and sustainable growth, while managing and maintaining a profitable renewal book.
• Establish, develop and expand long-term relationships with brokers and customers, further strengthening BHSI’s presence in the Italian market.
• Effectively communicate BHSI’s value proposition to brokers and customers and contribute to positioning BHSI as a leading market for PI & Cyber in Italy.
• Contribute to the continuous development of products, policy wordings, underwriting tools and processes, responding to evolving customer needs and market trends.
• Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high underwriting and service standards.
• Be a positive reflection of BHSI in the marketplace, demonstrating integrity, professionalism and leadership in interactions with brokers, customers and industry stakeholders.

Preferred experience and skills

• At least 5 years’ Professional Indemnity underwriting experience, with a strong understanding of the Italian commercial insurance market.
• Cyber underwriting experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Strong technical underwriting capability, including experience in risk analysis, coverage assessment, policy forms and wordings, and a good understanding of portfolio management with a focus on underwriting discipline and profitable growth.
• Established broker and customer relationships, or a demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships quickly.
• Professional fluency in Italian and English, with the ability to communicate confidently with brokers, customers and teammates.
• Strong negotiation, communication and presentation skills.
• A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across different functions and geographies.
• A proactive, commercially curious and self-motivated approach, with a genuine interest in developing BHSI’s PI & Cyber business in Italy.
• High standards of integrity and professionalism, with a strong alignment to BHSI’s values and culture.
• Willingness to travel for business when required.
