Senior Test Automation Engineer - PCBA & Embedded Systems Job Description Senior Test Automation Engineer - PCBA & Embedded Systems Job Location: San Giovanni Valdarno Department: Testing Work Model: On Site Full-Time/Part-Time: Full Time Contract Type: Permanent Job Req ID: 1891

Your Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy automated Functional Circuit Test (FCT) solutions for PCB assemblies, validating firmware readiness, communication interfaces, I/O functionality, power supplies, sensors, safety circuits, analog signal chains, calibration data, and diagnostic coverage under controlled operating conditions.
  • Define and implement In-Circuit Test (ICT) strategies to detect manufacturing defects including shorts, opens, missing or incorrect components, polarity issues, passive-value deviations, power and ground integrity problems, and structural assembly faults before functional validation.
  • Develop embedded-system test automation solutions covering firmware programming, boot verification, configuration management, communication protocol validation, non-volatile memory checks, embedded diagnostics, and JTAG/boundary-scan access where applicable.
  • Create robust validation methods for analog and mixed-signal boards, including power rails, voltage and current sensing, ADC/DAC paths, signal conditioning, isolation circuits, calibration routines, measurement uncertainty, tolerance windows, and noise-sensitive measurements.
  • Partner with PCB design and firmware teams to drive Design-for-Testability (DfT), ensuring test-point accessibility, programming access, fixture compatibility, reset and clock control, boundary-scan planning, diagnostic hooks, and automation-ready board architectures.
  • Build end-to-end traceability between product requirements, schematics, PCB nets, test cases, measured parameters, pass/fail limits, production logs, release gates, and manufacturing quality metrics.
  • Specify and integrate production test infrastructure, including bed-of-nails fixtures, flying-probe strategies, functional fixtures, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQ systems, protocol analyzers, safety interlocks, and automated instrumentation.
  • Analyze ICT and FCT failures, distinguish manufacturing defects from design, hardware, firmware, fixture, or process issues, and drive corrective actions to improve first-pass yield, cycle time, coverage, maintainability, and production quality.
  • Manage test-software releases and traceability using Azure DevOps and Git, supporting requirements management, repositories, pull requests, defect tracking, version control, CI/CD integration, and controlled deployment of production test applications.
Your Background
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Significant experience in PCBA manufacturing test engineering, production test engineering, or board-level validation, ideally within EV charging, automotive, power electronics, industrial electronics, or embedded-system environments.
  • Proven expertise developing automated PCBA Functional Circuit Test (FCT) solutions, including firmware interaction, communication interfaces, I/O verification, calibration routines, sensor validation, analog measurements, and automated pass/fail evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of ICT methodologies, flying-probe testing, bed-of-nails fixtures, structural fault coverage, test-point strategy, opens/shorts detection, component-value verification, fixture diagnostics, and power/ground validation.
  • Experience with embedded systems testing, including firmware flashing, serial communication, CAN, Ethernet, USB, JTAG/boundary scan, memory validation, configuration management, boot verification, and embedded debugging.
  • Solid understanding of analog and mixed-signal validation techniques, covering power regulators, references, ADC/DAC circuits, current and voltage sensing, isolation circuits, signal conditioning, calibration data management, tolerance-based limits, and noise-sensitive measurements.
  • Advanced programming and test-automation skills using Python, C#, LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar technologies, with the ability to develop modular, maintainable, and production-ready test applications.
  • Hands-on expertise with laboratory and manufacturing-test instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, multimeters, electronic loads, protocol analyzers, boundary-scan tools, automated measurement systems, and embedded debugging tools.
