Job summary

Gielle Informatica Srl in Italy seeks an HPC System Engineering Expert to support the ESA ESRIN site in Frascati. You will administer Linux-based HPC clusters, manage compute and GPU resources, and ensure platform reliability and performance across the HPC environment.

The role requires hands-on HPC experience, Slurm/PBS expertise, and strong scripting/automation skills. Hybrid work with two on-site days and strict English communication are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on HPC engineering/administration.
• Strong technical background with experience in HPC environments.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems.
• Experience with HPC job scheduling and resource accounting.
• Experience with parallel computing frameworks (MPI, OpenMP).
• Proficiency in troubleshooting, scripting and automation, storage and data-management practices, secure operational administration.
• Experience in performance tuning and optimization of HPC applications.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Singularity).
• Experience with HPC storage systems and data management.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Linux/Unix-based HPC clusters and associated infrastructure.
• Manage compute nodes, login/service nodes, GPU/accelerator resources and cluster services.
• Configure and implement Slurm or PBS workload management and scheduling.
• Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for HPC infrastructure issues.
• Support capacity planning, performance tuning and infrastructure evolution.
