Position

Technical Lead Engineer – Grid Automation

Overview

For our Business Unit Grid Automation based in Santa Palomba, Rome we are looking for a Technical Lead Engineer to support all engineering activities related to the Automation Scope of Medium and High Voltage Substations including testing and commissioning activities.

You will drive excellence by ensuring that engineering testing and commissioning activities are efficiently and cost‑effectively executed in accordance with customer expectations, contract specifications, Hitachi Energy policies, quality standards and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical lead and design authority for engineering deliverables across all applicable disciplines; coordinate technical activities during the complete project cycle including testing and commissioning.
  • Work closely with customers to shape and deliver solutions, utilizing feedback to drive innovative improvements and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction; collaborate with colleagues and engineers across disciplines sharing technical knowledge and best practices within the HUB Europe Region.
  • Support the Project Manager in costings: submit estimations; issue claims related to changes in project scope; assess cost and time impacts and risk implications.
  • Prepare base design of substation automation systems (control and protection). Verify the implemented base design within the detailed design.
  • Take over aspects of detailed design, engineering, testing or commissioning activities in relation to the project needs.
  • Resolve complex technical issues both remotely and in person at domestic and international customer sites.
  • Provide technical details, financial information and deliverables for sales proposals.
  • Ensure the project follows and complies with company health, safety and environmental policies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical / Electronic / Automation Engineering (or similar).
  • 5 years work experience in substation automation projects.
  • Knowledge of control and protection relays and solutions for high and medium voltage substations; knowledge of standard and industrial LAN networks; knowledge of industrial automation and electrical fields (PLC, RTU, SCADA).
  • Fluency in Italian and good knowledge of English (B2).
  • Strong communication, proactivity, team‑working and problem‑solving skills.
