Job summary

Università degli Studi di Palermo invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join the ERC Starting Grant REFINE2LASE project. The position focuses on nanocrystal science and nanostructured devices, combining synthesis, SAXS, microfluidics, and optical spectroscopy.

The successful candidate will assemble superstructures of colloidal nanocrystals, characterize them with optical spectroscopy, and integrate optical measurements into a SAXS setup for simultaneous data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble superstructures of colloidal semiconductor, metallic, and magnetic nanocrystals.
  • Characterize these structures using optical spectroscopy techniques, with particular emphasis on laser emission measurements.
  • Integrate optical characterization techniques into a SAXS setup to enable simultaneous optical and SAXS measurements.

Offer Description

This position is funded by the ERC Starting Grant REFINE2LASE, which aims to revolutionize nanocrystal (NC) science by developing universal refinement strategies to produce monodisperse nanocrystals. REFINE2LASE combines advanced nanocrystal synthesis, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), droplet microfluidics, and optical characterization to enable the next generation of optoelectronic devices, with a particular focus on colloidal microlasers and other hierarchical nanostructured devices.

The postdoctoral researcher will:

  • Assemble superstructures of colloidal semiconductor, metallic, and magnetic nanocrystals.
  • Characterize these structures using optical spectroscopy techniques, with particular emphasis on laser emission measurements.
  • Integrate optical characterization techniques into a SAXS setup to enable simultaneous optical and SAXS measurements.
