Politecnico di Milano invites applications for researchers to develop physics-informed digital twins for the assessment of breast-cancer invasiveness. The project integrates mechanistic models of tumour growth with experimental data from in vitro multicellular systems.
Focus areas include tumour–microenvironment interactions, data assimilation and uncertainty quantification. English language skills and international collaboration are relevant to the role.

The research programme aims to develop physics-informed digital twins for the quantitative assessment of breast-cancer invasiveness. The activity will integrate mechanistic models of tumour growth and invasion with experimental data obtained from in vitro multicellular systems. Particular attention will be devoted to tumour–microenvironment interactions, including active wetting, tissue remodelling, adhesion, friction, traction and cell migration. The physical matematical models will be used to identify latent biomechanical parameters, such as surface tension, viscosity, active stresses, adhesion and friction properties. Physics-informed surrogate models will also be developed to accelerate simulations and parameter identification. The framework will incorporate data assimilation and uncertainty quantification.
