Offer Description

This project is focused on the development of an integrated system based on VCSEL array connected to dedicated readout and processing IC, targeting depth sensing applications. The student will develop an SMI system simulator properly validated through experimental laboratory testing activities. In a second phase, the student will investigate new readout circuits and relative postprocessing architectures for next generation SMI microchips. The most promising implementations will be implemented on silicon, that after validation, will be embedded into dedicated system for functional tests. Through collaboration with experts in image sensors, analog and digital circuit design, the student will develop specialized knowledge across these domains. The project objective is the demonstration of a high performance SMI range integrated system. The intellectual property resulting from the doctoral student’s research activities will be owned by FBK and the Company.

Required/Preferred Candidate Skills and Competencies: Background in analog/digital electronics and mixed signal IC design, knowledge of image sensor architectures, lasers and VCSELs know-how, testing of electronic devices and systems, software programming for the generation of high-level models and sensor raw data postprocessing.

This PhD opportunity is sponsored by SONY.
