NewSpace Technical is seeking an Optical Engineer for the design, development, integration and testing of high-performance optical systems for space missions. You will work with mechanical, systems, electronics and manufacturing engineers to ensure optical performance across the product lifecycle.

Requires a degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or Aerospace Engineering, 3+ years in optical engineering, and proficiency with Zemax; experience with MATLAB or Python is valued.

The Role

As an Optical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and analysis of optical systems from concept through to integration and verification. You'll collaborate closely with mechanical, systems, electronics, and manufacturing engineers to ensure optical performance is achieved throughout the product lifecycle.

About You

We're looking for engineers with a passion for optical systems and space technology who enjoy solving complex engineering challenges.

• Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years' experience in optical engineering.
• Experience designing and analysing precision optical systems.
• Knowledge of optical modelling and performance analysis.
• Experience with optical alignment and laboratory test setups.
• Understanding of optical metrology techniques.
• Proficiency with optical design software such as Zemax .
• Experience with stray-light analysis tools is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with telescope or imaging system design.
• Familiarity with optical manufacturing and precision assembly processes.
• Programming experience with MATLAB and/or Python.
