A leading optical technology firm in Italy is seeking a Scientist to develop optimized optical designs for complex systems. The ideal candidate will utilize advanced optical simulation tools and have strong programming skills. Key responsibilities include designing systems, conducting technology scouting, and analyzing patent landscapes. A MSc in Physics or Optical Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant R&D experience are required, along with fluency in English. This is a full-time position at the mid-senior level.

Competenze

  • MSc in Physics, Optical or Photonic Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • PhD or 5+ years of experience in optical R&D projects.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken) is mandatory.

Role

To support the development of optimized optical design targeting miniaturization of complex systems.

Main responsibilities
  • Design complex systems using advanced ray tracing, wave optics, caustics and scattering techniques ensuring methodological consistency and alignment between numerical simulations and experimental results.
  • Carry out technology scouting to identify existing solutions from other fields, assess their applicability to CoeLux devices, and minimize technological gaps.
  • Analyze the patent landscape, identify opportunities for new IP, and engage with licensors when required.
  • Interact with industrial partners and suppliers to transfer designs into manufacturable components.
Skills
  • Excellent command of optical simulation tools: Zemax OpticStudio, Lumerical, Ansys Speos.
  • Advanced programming skills.
  • Deep knowledge of optics: geometric, diffractive, refractive, polarization, birefringence, scattering (Rayleigh, Mie).
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and collaboration skill.
Education / Training / Experience required by the position
  • MSc in Physics, Optical or Photonic Engineering (or equivalent).
  • PhD or 5+ years of experience in optical R&D projects.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken).
