University of Naples is offering a two-year postdoctoral fellowship as part of the EPIC project to study Standard Model physics, flavor, neutrino physics, and potential new physics beyond the SM. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team with experience in CMS, DUNE, and other international experiments.
The appointment includes a gross annual salary of 36,000 € plus travel and lunch tickets, with a start no later than November 1, 2027. Applicants must hold a Ph.D.
Deadline: November 12th, 2026 (11:59 p.m. CET)
Duration contract 2 years
New physics around few TeV scale can be studied and probed in the leptonic as well as in the strong sectors. In particular, for the leptonic sector, we will focus on the analysis of neutrino fluxes at next-generation accelerators, such as HyperKamiokande and JUNO. Special attention will be paid to the possibility of non-standard neutrino-matter interactions and leptonic flavor violation in the cores of supernovae. Moreover motivated by the recent indication of the diffuse supernova neutrino background , we investigate its potential as a probe of physics beyond the Standard Model. On the other side we plan to study the hadronic dynamics in heavy-meson decays, with particular emphasis on rare semileptonic B-meson decays and CP violation in the charm sector, for precision tests of the Standard Model and searches for new physics.
This project is financed by INFN, in particular by the INFN project denoted as EPIC (Physics at the Energy, Precision, Intensity and Cosmic frontiers) having Different participants located in Rome, Florence, Frascati, Pisa.
The EPIC project aims to test the Standard Model (SM) and search for New Physics (NP) across the Energy, Precision, Intensity, and Cosmic frontiers.
The members of EPIC project at Naples University are L.Cappiello, S.Morisi, G.Ricciardi, P.Santorelli. Naples physics department also participate actively to many international experiments like CMS, DUNE, dark side, Km3net.
The postdoctoral researcher will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers with a strong interest in Standard Model physics, flavor physics, neutrino physics and new physics beyond the Standard Model. The successful candidate will be selected according to these topics and experience in these areas are required.
An equal amount of time should be spent on complementary research lines described above. Candidates are expected to have a strong background in particle physics or related fields.
Eligible candidates may be:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree (or an equivalent qualification), obtained no more than eight years prior to the call deadline, i.e. November 12th, 2018.
Candidates who are preparing their doctoral thesis are eligible to apply; however they must have obtained their Ph.D. degree by November 1st, 2027.
The annual gross salary is 36.000,00 €. Each fellowship is granted for two years. Travel tickets to and from INFN sites will be reimbursed at the beginning and at the end of the fellowship; also lunch tickets will be provided for working days.
At the end of the selection process, the results of the selection will be published at INFN website (Job Opportunities - Details of the announcement). Successful candidates will then receive an official communication from the INFN administration offices. The appointed fellows should start their fellowships not later than November 1st, 2027;
Further information candidates can contact Prof.Santorelli as well as Prof.ssa G.Ricciardi.
