Mechanical Simulation Engineer – Virtual Validation Department
We are looking for a Mechanical Simulation Engineer to join the Virtual Validation Department team at Marelli, based in Corbetta. As a critical member, you will design, analyze, and validate advanced automotive components ensuring the highest standards of performance and safety.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct and manage Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations using Altair HyperMesh/HyperView/HyperGraph and OptiStruct for implicit simulations, including structural analysis, stiffness evaluation, thermal shock assessment, vibration analysis, and fatigue testing.
- Perform explicit simulations with LS‑Dyna, such as crash analysis, sled tests, head impact tests, and airbag deployment simulations.
- Carry out biomechanics evaluations on dummies, considering OOP, airbag deployment, time‑to‑fire, and FMVSS201/ECE‑R21 regulations.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to guide the design process, providing insights and recommendations supported by simulation validation.
- Ensure compliance with EMEA and NAFTA specifications and standards, and participate in face‑to‑face meetings with customers when required.
- Act as a thought leader, leveraging machine learning and AI applications to enhance simulation processes and engineering outcomes.
- Communicate effectively in English and preferably in French.
- Demonstrate autonomy while working collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Run correlation activities to generate digital twin models.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of automotive materials, understand differences, suggest solutions and alternatives, and create detailed material cards referencing temperature dependence, strain rates, GISSMO advanced failure model, etc.
- Handle elastoplastic, brittle, hyper‑elastic materials and glue and adhesive characteristics.
- Apply knowledge of mold processes and tolerance chain calculation.
- Solve physics problems using energy balance calculations.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (valid and recognized in Europe or the United States). Bachelor’s degree is not sufficient.
- Over 7 years of experience in the automotive industry, specifically in infotainment, displays, and clusters.
- Proficiency with FEM simulation tools (Altair HyperMesh/HyperView/HyperGraph, OptiStruct, Ansys LS‑Dyna).
- Experience with DOE activities and creating databases to train AI‑based models.
- Strong understanding of EMEA and NAFTA automotive specifications.
Additional Skills That Will Be Welcomed
- Fluency in English; additional proficiency in French is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and team members.
- Basic knowledge of machine learning and AI applications in engineering contexts.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and drive projects to completion.
Benefits and Offer
- Fast‑paced yet supportive and high‑performing international team with an inspiring ambition to transform the future of mobility.
- Support in onboarding and further training to help you thrive at Marelli.
- A hybrid work model that balances remote work and purposeful co‑creation time in the office.
- Growth career path with clear progression opportunities.
