RINA is currently recruiting for a Marine Floating Offshore Sector Senior Surveyor to join its office in Genoa, Naples or Pescara, Italy within the Marine Special Ships Excellence Centre Division.
Mission
The Senior Surveyor serves as an experienced and knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The Senior Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes.
Key Accountabilities
- Professional Specialist: Acts as a professional specialist, applying in-depth knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry concepts; keeps abreast of new developments and recommends changes to surveying processes and safety programs.
- Inspection and Reporting: Conducts routine surveys on classed ships, offshore installations, or marine assets to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements; prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys.
- Leadership and Coordination: Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work; monitors the quality of service, providing guidance to less experienced surveyors.
- Client Interaction: Engages with clients to solve problems within the area of expertise; ensures client satisfaction through effective communication and resolution of issues.
- Training and Development: Provides guidance and training to less experienced surveyors; contributes to the development and improvement of the skills and knowledge of the surveying team.
- Quality Assurance: Ensures the maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of work performed.
- Ethical Conduct: Upholds the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes.
Education
Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a Surveyor or minimum 6 years’ experience in the engineering or inspection/survey fields with an IACS member Classification Society.
- Understanding of RINA strategic technical positioning in the sector of the marine industry.
- Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of classification, statutory certification, related services, and prior to assignment with future work.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
- Ability to understand engineering plans and have knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
- Ability, in general, to perform either:
- New building surveys: assess the suitability of certified materials and products supplied for the new building, ensure hull, machinery and equipment are built in compliance with rules and regulations through compulsory inspections, tests and trials, and issue Certificates, Reports, Records and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
- Ship in service surveys: assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been maintained in compliance with rules and regulations through compulsory overall inspections, tests and trials; follow-up on repair works; schedule new periods of class and validity of statutory Certificates; attend major conversion works; identify deficiencies; assess immediate repair necessity or condition issuance; follow-up on outstanding repair or condition work; assess potential failure linkage; endorse Certificates, issue Reports and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
- Marine Management Systems audits.
- Testing activities and service suppliers/manufacturers certification: assess suitability of certified materials and products in compliance with applicable rules; issue Certificates and prepare Reports and Status in compliance with procedures.
- Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery.
- Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
- Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
