UNSW Rural (Port Macquarie campus) brings world‑class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6‑year medical course at our rural clinical campuses across several locations. Face‑to‑face teaching is critical to rural program delivery with our students building strong relationships with clinicians and other academics, whilst integrating and being accepted as part of the local medical community. UNSW’s program has strongly supported the aims of the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program for over 25 years, delivering excellence in rural medical education and student experience.
UNSW’s Education Focused (EF) roles enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high‑quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those who are appointed to this specialism will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities.
In this role you will have a passion for rural medical education, be committed to high quality teaching, and have a demonstrated interest in rural health projects and research. The position focuses on developing and maintaining the Independent Learning Project (ILP) programme at the campus, ensuring consistent alignment with goals that introduce undergraduate medical students to research through supervised projects that provide hands‑on experience and a basic knowledge of research concepts and processes, including the development of self‑directed learning skills and critical thinking.
The position reports to the Director of Medical Education at the identified campus with a dotted reporting line to the Clinical Director Rural, ILP and Research Collaboration, and has no direct reports.
