We’re seeking an experienced Lead Engineer – AI & Personalization to join our Travel Things Team in Barcelona, Madrid or Milan (hybrid). You will help optimize the funnel experience, conversion, and revenue through personalization.

What You’ll Do
  • Increase conversion in our booking funnel through smarter user journeys.
  • Grow revenue margin per booking by leveraging AI and machine learning to personalize the offer at every step.
  • Leverage real‑time data for covering customer‑specific needs and tailoring our product portfolio.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead a high‑performing team of backend and frontend web engineers, fostering growth, ownership, and technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and UX designers to create, validate and deliver high‑impact product features.
  • Drive the adoption of machine‑learning models, AI systems, and personalization frameworks into customer‑facing features.
  • Ensure engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, and high standards for testing and delivery.
  • Measure, understand and continuously improve team performance, maintaining high standards.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, supporting their technical and leadership growth.
  • Align closely with other engineering teams across the company to ensure a coherent technical strategy and delivery cadence.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Proven experience as a Lead Engineer with tech leadership, ideally in B2C or product‑led organisations.
  • Previous knowledge or strong interest in applying machine learning or AI to product problems.
  • Experience integrating ML models into production systems or working closely with data scientists.
  • Solid understanding of personalization strategies (recommendations, targeting, contextual relevance) and their impact on conversion or monetisation.
  • Ability to break down complex systems and make pragmatic decisions that drive business impact.
  • Experience building distributed systems and REST APIs.
  • A product mindset: you care deeply about solving real user problems and measuring outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills – comfortable driving conversations with Product, Design, Data Science and reporting to Directors.
  • Track record of driving initiatives that had measurable impact on funnel performance or revenue KPIs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with applied AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI‑powered coding assistants.
  • Experimentation mindset: curiosity and eagerness to explore, experiment with, and integrate emerging AI‑driven solutions.
  • Ability to leverage AI tools to debug code, streamline development processes, and enhance productivity.
  • Adaptability and learning agility – enthusiastic about continuously learning and quickly adapting to new AI features.
  • Experience or interest in collaborating closely with AI tools as “pair programmers” to complement traditional software development practices.
