Job summary

Hitachi Rail S.p.A. is seeking a junior mechanical engineer to work in the Rolling Stock Engineering Department in Pistoia or Napoli. You will handle a broad set of tasks from requirements specification to drawings, supporting manufacturing, testing and homologation.

Ideal candidates hold a Master's in Mechanical Engineering, possess basic CAD skills (Catia/Creo) and have a willingness to work in an international, fast-paced team with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical disciplines and interfaces.
• English written and spoken at least B2 level.

Responsibilities

• Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS) for mechanical components.
• Analyze and assess technical proposals from Suppliers.
• Prepare and verify mechanical installation/integration drawings/specifications.
• Conduct design reviews with internal teams and suppliers under supervision.
• Prepare BoM and equipment layout drawings.
• Ensure compliance with railway regulations and project constraints.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Junior Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks within our Rolling Stock Engineering Department. The position is based in Pistoia or Napoli - IT.

Accountabilities

• Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS) for mechanical components
• Analyze and assess technical proposals from Suppliers
• Prepare and verify mechanical installation/integration drawings/specifications
• Conduct design reviews (both internal and with suppliers) for the assigned work package, under the supervision of relevant Engineering Managers and Project Engineers
• Attend at system stand-alone type test and review of type test reports
• Support manufacturing, testing and validation phases
• Review design documentation with customers and suppliers
• Prepare structural drawings (carbody shell, bogie frames, mechanical components)
• Prepare equipment layout and mechanical routing drawings
• Prepare Bill of Materials (BoM)
• Ensure compliance with input requirements, international railway regulations and standards and project constraints (time, cost, quality)
• Prepare the required documentation for vehicle approval and support the homologation phase

Required Skills / Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of mechanical disciplines (installation, interfaces, component design, etc.)
• Basic knowledge of design verification and validation methodologies
• Basic knowledge of mechanical CAD systems (Catia or Creo preferred)
• Basic knowledge of piping systems, fittings and joint design methodologies
• Basic knowledge of noise/vibration modelling and assessment of mechanical components
• Basic knowledge of welded structure design rules and standards (EN 15085)
• Basic knowledge of PLM systems (Windchill preferred)
• Good knowledge of office automation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, international and multicultural environment
• Good organizational skills, alongside team-working, problem-solving and results-driven mindset
• Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders (including suppliers, partners, customers)
• Ability to work within project teams under minimal supervision
• Availability for occasional short-term national and international business trips

Desired Skills / Knowledge

• Minimum experience (1-2 years) in the Railway sector or in complex industrial environments
• Basic knowledge of main railway regulations and standards
• Basic knowledge of IBM DOORS requirements management tool
• Basic knowledge of engineering processes and railway operations
• Basic knowledge of railway vehicles running dynamics performance assessment
• Fast learner with strong willingness to stay up to date with technological developments
• Good business acumen combined with solid technical skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills

Education / Qualifications

Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical disciplines mandatory).

Languages

• Knowledge of written and spoken English (at least B2 level).

Employment Conditions

Alla posizione si applica il vigente CCNL per l’industria metalmeccanica privata e l’installazione di impianti, con inquadramento nel livello B1, ai sensi della relativa disciplina di classificazione del personale.

Proponiamo una retribuzione annua lorda compresa tra 33.000 € e 38.000 €.
