NTT DATA Romania is seeking a hands-on Java Software Architect to lead assessment, modernization, and migration of enterprise Java applications. You will define and execute modernization strategies, address platform compatibility, and guide teams through architecture decisions to deliver measurable business value.

The role requires strong technical leadership, risk management, and collaboration with architects, engineering teams, and project managers to drive large-scale Java/EAP migration

Competenze

• Bachelor’s degree in Informatics or similar field is required.
• 12+ years of IT experience with significant Java application development, architecture, and technical leadership.
• Proven track record leading complex application modernisation, migration, or transformation initiatives.
• Experience delivering enterprise-scale programs involving multiple applications, development teams, and stakeholders.
• Experience working in large and complex enterprise environments with mission-critical applications.

Who we are

We are seeking a hands-on Java Software Architect to lead the assessment, modernisation, and migration of enterprise Java applications. This role requires a strong technical leader who can define and execute modernisation strategies, address platform compatibility challenges, and leverage AI-assisted engineering practices to accelerate application assessment, code remediation, testing, and delivery.

The role involves providing technical leadership, guiding development teams, managing technical risks, and supporting project planning and implementation from both architectural and engineering perspectives. Working closely with stakeholders, architects, engineering teams, and project managers, the successful candidate will drive large enterprise application Java EAP migration initiatives and ensure successful modernisation outcomes that deliver measurable business value.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead architecture assessment, modernisation planning, and migration of enterprise Java applications
• Define and drive the technical architecture and implementation approach for complex Java-based enterprise applications
• Assess application dependencies, frameworks, integrations, infrastructure components, and security controls to identify migration impacts and remediation requirements
• Design scalable, resilient, secure, and high-performing systems using Java and modern architectural patterns
• Establish architectural standards, design principles, coding guidelines, and technology best practices covering security, scalability, maintainability, performance, and supportability
• Define migration patterns for Java/Jakarta EE compatibility, library upgrades, API replacements, and application server modernisation
• Create architecture diagrams, technical specifications, solution designs, and migration runbooks
• Provide hands-on architectural and technical guidance to development teams throughout implementation
• Proactively identify technical risks, compatibility issues, dependencies, and blockers and drive them toward resolution
• Lead technical discussions with client architects, application teams, infrastructure, security, database, QA, and DevOps teams
• Design and implement integration solutions using REST APIs, messaging platforms, event-driven architectures, and enterprise integration patterns
• Support troubleshooting of complex issues and provide architectural recommendations and solutions
• Support technical estimation, implementation planning, design reviews, architecture governance, and technical decision-making
• Leverage AI-assisted development and modernisation tools for application discovery, code analysis, remediation, testing, documentation, and impact assessment
• Define AI-assisted engineering practices, quality controls, and governance to ensure AI-generated outputs are validated, secure, and production-ready
• Mentor developers and technical leads, promoting engineering excellence and technical best practices

What you’ll bring along

• 12+ years of IT experience with significant experience in Java application development, architecture, and technical leadership
• Proven track record leading complex application modernisation, migration, or transformation initiatives
• Experience delivering enterprise-scale programs involving multiple applications, development teams, and stakeholders
• Experience working in large and complex enterprise environments with mission-critical applications
